My friend who is later 60s would love to do CT5K but the consultant that did both her hip replacements told her that she shouldn't run. She walks miles very briskly and is very slim.
Any one on the programme who has hip replacements?

The bottom bit of this does say to speak to your doctor first though.
Hi there, I am 45 with two total hip replacements (one in 2014 and one in 2015) and, after reading so much contradictory and confusing information about running with replacement hips I just decided to go for it. From what I could tell there is no proven evidence that running can wear out artificial hips more quickly than not running as it is nigh on impossible to do any meaningful research - i.e. even if you had a control group and a running group of people with total hip replacements there are so many other factors which could effect things.
It sounds as though I am much less fit (and definitely fatter!) then your friend and I have reached W4R1 with absolutely no hip pain or concerns. I would add that this is totally my own decision - I was not given any advice about running (or not running) by any consultants or doctors. I have been doing Pilates classes for core strength for about 18 months though and without those (and the very rare spot of swimming cycling) I don't think I would have decided to run. My main decision was to have a gait analysis and invest in some really good trainers before I even started C25K - for anyone in the know I must look very all the gear and no idea but I think it's been worth it.
Hope that helps...
