Just done my first run

I've just done my first week one run tonight, I'm now getting really sharp pains intermittently in what I think is my heart. Has anyone else had this? is it something I should get looked at or is it just cos I'm not used to do exercise?

I haven’t experienced any pains. If you’re at all concerned please call 111 for medical advice or 999 if you think it could be an emergency. They can direct you to appropriate help or put your mind at rest.

Hopefully you’re feeling better already. All the best.

If you’re going from zero exercise to this and getting chest pain you should get yourself checked out by a doc. It’s probably nothing but best to make sure.

Definitely see a qualified medic. Chest pains are unusual and always to be taken seriously. At the same time, don’t panic. Indigestion is a very common cause ! You may need to rethink the time gap between eating and running. Hope you’re back to normal soon x

Great job completing the run. I’d get in touch with your GP to discuss this and that will possibly mean having an ECG test. You need to do this safely and so I’d rather wait before I ran again if I was you.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

We can't give an accurate diagnosis over the internet so we always recommend that you consult your GP.........better to be safe than sorry.

When you do run again make sure that you can still speak in clear ungasping sentences as you run, otherwise you are going too fast.

Take care.

My husband insisted he had indigestion but (long story very very short) he ended up having a quadruple heart bypass after me insisting he went to see our GP. DO NOT ignore chest pains. Make an appointment to see your GP ASAP!!!
