Making it part of my routine

I was doing well with ct5k - my next run is w7r2 but it’s been more than an actual week. Like millions of others I guess, i work, and have 2 small boys and am now at the stage where it’s moving from novelty to part of my routine but I’m struggling to embed it. It either means getting up 45 mins earlier and I really like and need sleep or going in the evening when I am tired especially after snuggling up with boys for stories as I haven’t seen them all day and again just want to sleep.. any hints for embedding running in my life most welcome... I don’t always enjoy it while I’m doing it but i like being out in the weather, have a beautiful route and feel good afterwards and notice the benefits in terms of fitness, weight loss, gradual changes in achy bits etc.I have so far always done the run exactly as instructed, sometimes a bit more and started monitoring distance.. anyone else hit a hurdle at transitioning from novelty to long term habit? Sorry for longwindedness.

Me too! I have 3 children and work as well, so I struggle to keep to a running routine. I’ve ended up doing 2 runs a week and it’s also taking a long time to recover. I tell myself at least I’m doing something rather than sitting on the sofa and drinking wine 😊

Agrée, it’s still positive to be doing something and want to avoid beating myself up too much because this habit is part of what running helps me distance myself from... maybe I’ll try that, think of it as a treat. Just like the occasional glass of wine too... thx

Of course life gets in the way, but elevating your running up the priority scale means that something else will have to give............yes, you will have to physically find time to run.

I wondered, when I first started, how I would fit in three runs per week, only to find myself getting up to run at 5.30 am, having always been a relatively late riser. A morning run sets me up for the day.

I think being flexible is helpful and I know that is difficult with a family but become an opportunist and grab that time for yourself, when the chance arises.

I barely missed a run for my first year of running, ingraining the habit. I don't beat myself up if I can't fit in a run, but there is an underlying desire to run whenever possible, so what happens happens.

Yes so difficult. I’m a full time carer of a severely disabled person, and yes I find it very difficult to run three times a week.

Just thank god ive a partner who stands in for me for an hour
