Ok... so Little Miss UNM set up a challenge... 1k fast and into a 3k slow jog... but we had to run the 1k as fast as we could. Sounded reasonable, so I swapped out what should have been a tempo run and off we go. Of course, this means that I ran like a guy... I put everything I could into the first kilometre, probably more the first 500m to be honest... at the 1k mark I was way ahead, but I was in big trouble... the jog was slow and I was really struggling... 2k and still not fully recovered, just after she came cruising past me, 3k and I’m about back to my normal recovery pace and then I got to the finish to see her sat under a tree singing along to “running free”. Got in the car, max aircon and couldn’t bring myself to actually move the car for a few minutes. So, that’s me brought down to earth and I have one grinning smug little girl!

School are looking at staffing and risk assessment as well as funding... they don’t want to start it if some kids can’t afford shoes, which I totally get. I’ve offered my services to go lean on a running store... I’m thinking a nice discount and they’d get some great press. Hopefully they’ll sort it all out and we can get the whole school moving... couple of disabled kids will need to be included too... so it’s a bit of a headache, luckily not for me! Last I heard was just before half term and they’re still pretty positive... when I get a DBS form sent to me I’ll be happy!

Ha, I'm grinning like mad at this one. You must have been proud and mad in equal measures. Very helpful timing for me. My eldest son has taken an unhealthy interest in my running and wants to schedule some runs with him and his wife when we go out to see them in British Columbia next year. Since they both run ultras with massive elevation gains I think I will decide my own schedule, after all you have just proved that offspring cannot be trusted when it comes to running !!!
I guess Canada is so big, popping over to the neighbours is an ultra for some. I remember Danny Bhoy saying you drive for 9 hours, look at the map and you haven’t moved. 😂. Yeah, I’d be worried, but at least ultra runners don’t tend to go crazy on speed
