hi everybody. completed w2r2 on Thursday,(Saturday now). I've not run for 30 years, used to smoke 15-20 a day, gave that filth up 7 months ago. Thought, time to sort my self out! I know I can do this. the problem I'm having is with my calves. First week, both felt like someone had dug in with a red hot poker, struggled through though. . W2R1 all was ok, though always in the back of my mind. w2r2, on the last run, bang, there it goes again, more to the side of the calf though. I do plenty of stretching etc. really feel now that this is going to stop me 😖😤 any advice greatly appreciated
W2R2 calves: hi everybody. completed w2r2 on... - Couch to 5K
W2R2 calves
Well done for starting and getting this far. My advice would be to slow it down. Take a couple of extra rest days too. Good luck.
Are you maybe going too fast??
I gave up smoking in february, enrolled at a gym, started c25k 1st of july and graduated august 30th. (Woohoo!)
I have NEVER had any pain anywhere. Not even a stitch.
But i do listen to laura: slow and steady. Bear in mind that it's not speed we're aiming at at this stage. It is to build strength and stamina.
Also invest in good trainers. They make a world of difference AND prevent injuries.
Definitely keep at it, try different ways and you will be amazed with your progress!
Happy running!
Maybe try slowing things down a bit, you’re aiming for a light jog. Are you properly hydrated?
Hi Jayjaydee ...I just did Wk2 r2 today and had exactly the same problem! It's funny because it hadn't happened in any of the previous runs. This time though, I didn't quite make it to the end of two of the running sections (both times when I was running uphill) . My ankles / lower calves were burning! And I definitely wasn't going too fast...
Hi, well done for starting C25K. I too had a lot of pain in my calves at the beginning. Having my gait analysed and buying decent trainers helped. I also bought a roller and now 'roll' my calves before every run - this has made a massive difference as over the weeks they have softened and now I don't get any pain while I'm running at all. Slow and steady - you can do this!
Thanks for your comments. I'm about to set off for w2r3. plenty of pre-stretching, massaged, and hydrated. i dont think speed is a problem. doing c25k with my significant other and she's going dead slow.😁🚶♀️🤞
