So after much deliberation I finally crumbled and signed up for the Sheffield half marathon. I foresee lots of running up hills in the next few weeks to get myself prepared....... Wish me luck and roll on April.
What have I done????????: So after much... - Couch to 5K
What have I done????????

I do wish you luck Pete1w for next year s
Sheffield HM in April. You have plenty of time to prepare yourself for it. You will be hoping that the winter is not too severe for your training, even if it is you can go to a gym and train on a dreadmill, sorry a threadmill π

Good luck!

Absolute kudos! Wow, how exciting Pete - will look forward to hearing how your training is going. The only way Iβd do a HM is by osmosis. 10k will be plenty for me! But I love to hear of other peopleβs achievements - like yours! ππππ
Good luck. I started half maraton training when I used to run but quite honestly, I didn't enjoy it at all, not a fitness thing but more the time it was taking up, and I constantly felt under pressure if I couldn't get out as planned for whatever reason. I settled at 8 miles as a good distance for me and was happy with that. You have been warned π, but I daresay you'll be fine.
Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew. I don't plan on following a rigid training regime. Do you think I should? I'll just keep upping the distance, throw In a few (big) hills and see how I go. The beauty of the Sheffield half is that the first 7/8 miles are uphill. After that it's mostly downhill. Oh hang on I hate running downhill. WTF HAVE I DONE???????
I'm probably not the one to advise but I was following a runners world plan, can't really remember the details but maybe take a look at some plans even if you don't stick rigidly to any particular one. Plenty of people do it so don't let my experience put you off, you'll be fine.
I've been looking at training plans on the RW website today. I also saw a plan on the HM website but can't find it now. I was going to print it out and follow that one. I think the problem with a set plan is it puts certain"rules" in place which takes away the enjoyment of running. I'm certainly not putting pressure on myself to finish within a certain time but just to feel an accomplishment that I can actually do it before I hit the big 50.
Congrats. Youβll love it! Why not pop over to the B210k forum or the Marathon and Race Support one. Lots of advice on both of those. Youβve loads of time to get ready for the HM so you can take a really steady plan i.e. no need to run more than your usual numbers of runs, like some plans call for, which shouldnβt put you under any pressure and then you can see what happens on the day (thatβs what I do and it usually works a treat).
I found the SHM training plan and to be fair apart from a few runs in weeks 7,8,9 and 10 I'm covering those distances now. This is the intermediate plan so I'm guessing I'm an intermediate runner?? I once said in C25K after week 5 (the 20 minute run) it was all in the mind. I think this is pretty much the same. Or at least I hope it is. No more skipping runs for an extra hour in bed now. I'm gonna do this......

Good luck! Mineβs in May but hope to get to 21k by February (1st runniversary)
Woohoo pete! Major league!!! Good for you. It's always better to try than not to dare! I am sure you will do it!
