Week run 1

Thought this would be a piece of cake after the 20 minute run in week 5.

Michael (Johnson) said it would be tough but I thought it would be easy.

My jogging was more like a slow stumble and people were passing me walking!

I am all achy now and wonder if I am actually doing myself any good.

The couch seems like a more comfortable place.

Any advice fellow joggers?

We are all warned about run 1 of week 6 Jusinrose (your not the golfer with that name? ) ,after run 3 of week 5 perhaps you went too fast Justin on R1W6 , there are many that are caught out with that run, better luck with run 2 of week 6, just take it a little slower than the first run.

I too found this run a little tricky as do a lot of people but hey, we completed it! Don't worry about your pace, speed is not the objective here, distance is. The body aching is actually a good sign, believe it or not, as it is an indication of getting fitter and stronger. You will find the next run easier, believe me. I used to struggle running for 10 minutes but have just comfortably ran for 25 this evening and feel great, as you will too. Don't give up, whatever you do. You've come so far and are doing great. Keep it up! 💪🏻

MJ knows what he’s talking about... it’s a tricky run that you just took on. You can do 20 so 8 is easy right? Well, yes, but not with a 5 and an 8 still to do. We live and learn... every new run requires a slow and steady approach. You didn’t say wether you completed it... I get the feeling that you did... in which case well done. If you didn’t, you’re not alone, it’s caught many many runners out. If it’s caught you out, that’s cool... no athlete ever has gone undefeated... it’s what you do next that counts.

I ran behind a 4 year old who didn’t want to even walk junior parkrun a couple of weeks ago... I was the tailwalker. I never stopped running, I wasn’t running back and forth and yet I didn’t pass him. I logged that run... pace is irrelevant, in fact it was my slowest run and also the one I’m proudest of.

That couch... it is comfortable... I ran today, I’m sat on mine... you did too... love that comfort... just get off it again tomorrow and do some exercise, and run next run day... you can still love the couch, it just can’t own you any more... that’s why you’re here right?

Great job getting back out there... great job getting beaten up by a run... great job if you got beat down by a run... you seen Rocky? It’s all about getting up again and landing that punch... knock it down next time.

Sorry to anybody who hasn’t seen Rocky... you’ll still enjoy the first half of each film 😂

That first run in week 6 is a lot harder than it looks at first glance. Good on you for powering into it and giving it a go - just one more and the intervals are toast!

The couch is by far the most comfortable place but getting off it does you the most good! I wouldn't worry about the pace, completing the runs each week without stopping is something to feel proud of. I'm slow and I get overtaken but I couldn't care less as I'm doing my own thing and I'm getting better every week. Stick with it; you'll be fine.
