W8R1 - first run after water fast

Some of you know that I did 24 hours water fast, i.e. I was drinking only water all Saturday (no food, no other liquids). It was my second 1 day fast. Why I did it? Digestive system health experiment. My doctors can't help me, so I am trying to find my way. It gives my belly a good rest and it definitely strengthen my mind, so later on it's easier to resist any temptations and I am thinking twice before eating something I shouldn't ;)

But we are not on eating or bowel issues forum. We are on running forum!!!

So on Sunday, I was super weak and was full of doubt that I will manage to run today. In the morning my hands shaked after going down to eat breakfast O_O and I had to take a quick nap after breakfast, as I didn't have power to do anything else. But after terrible morning, when my breakfast and tea with lemon and honey reached my veins, I was like a new god, although still a little weak.

So today, after work, Running World pre-run warm up exercises, then I took my dog, about 10 min warm up walk and some fetching, we took of for our 1st run of week 8. My dog had very, very sniffy day, which was annoying, as she suddenly stopped, and my slow forward movement was brutally interrupted. I must have looked very funny, as my bungee lead pulled me back to standing like a rock dog that decided to sniff, i.e. read some very important memo ;)

My run was far from constant, and my pace was far from steady. But I was going slowly forward (mostly), instead of stopping I was running in place. I had few acceleration, to cross the street. I even managed to have a proper sprint (twice) during last 2 minutes of my run, as I finished on nice football field where other dogs were playing and my NOT tired dog, just shoot off to steal a ball or happily and jumpingly greeted other dog owners. Ok, I hope I was sprinting to stop her, not crawling through the grass. I had to put her back on the lead. But no ball has been stolen, no harm to the humans was made. Everybody happy and no hard feelings.

I was so surprised that I completed this run today. Struggling? Yes. Weak? A little. Determined? Absolutely. Happy? Yes. Feeling accomplished? A little. Proud? Yes.

Finished with different 30 minutes stretching routine, picked 3 after run stretches videos from YouTube - 1 yoga, 1 random, 1 from some running club. Hot bath, hot chicken broth with veggies and cooked chicken wing. Now relaxing with my legs against the wall. Feeling like it was a good day. Although I haven't done anything from my to do list apart from running. But you know what? I ran after water fast! I completed W8R1 run, the furthest run on the programme I have ever been, and tomorrow is another day that I can do all those important bits from my list ;)

Enjoy your run! Believe in yourself! If you struggle, slow down, and then slow down even more ;) Just go out and run :)

I ran on Saturday before my fast. Oops, feast!

Fasting takes a lot of discipline... well done... it’s certainly not something I’d do, but it does have good effects mentally and physically on people I know who do it.

Well done all round... especially on the run, 5 to go!

I am not sure if I will be repeating it. Maybe I'll try only cooked mashed veggie day for a belly calmness... I have to think about it.

I also prefer feast over fast. But I learnt damn lot about myself during those 2 times I completely 24h water fast. It also strengthen my confidence also towards running. If I can go 24 hours without food, I also can run/jog for 30 minutes ;) or at least go out there and see how far I can go that day :)

Certainly builds character. You can run 30 minutes any day. Well, every other day for now.

I still have 2 more 28-minute runs this week ;) Then I will be going for 30 ;)

Of course... see there’s that discipline again.

Hahahaha :) I've learnt it hard way. Do my 3 runs a week no matter what. Blood donation? Fast? Mind over body! And slow and steady! And step by step! ;)

Hi IgaT! Big congratulations!! Great work and victory! You're a hero! 👏

I'm very sorry you have health problems! I hope it will be better and better.

And I hope I can encourage you a little when we run together...

We are already a short distance from the target. We can do it!!

Be healthy and rest 🏖before the next run. :-)

I think without you, I wouldn't be able to archive it. Or I would have much bigger motivation problems. You are the person who pushes me out the door ;) My most difficult moment. I tend to read your post as I'm coming home from work, just before I go for my run. So you are almost always with me on my runs :)

On your finish line I will be waiting with huge champagne and confetti! We are so close. Do you have plan or ideas what's next? I have few ideas, but I will decide what's next close to the end of week 9. If you want to join me during further adventures, I'll be honoured.

Looking forward for you Wednesday morning post ;)

I like to help :-) But you also encourage me not to give up. Thank you very much! :-)

Yes, we are so close!

Joining the next run would be an honor for me.

But I do not know what to do next (yet).

I thought I would run for 5 km and win over the hills :-)

I'm also a little worried about the winter. I can not imagine that I run three times a week in the winter.

So I'm just looking at the end of the program and then I'd like to proceed in running three times a week. I think that it would be a great success for me.

Actually, success is it now for me. I thank you too.

Yes, we both already succeeded, we are succeeding, and we will succeed :)

Winter is not so scarry as it seems. Proper clothing solves most issues.

I want to have 1 or 2 weeks of consolidation runs 3x per week. So my week 10 & 11 would be continuous 30 minutes. I don't have hills to conquer. So we may have different needs, thus may need different types of runs.

But you know me, I am concentrated only on my next run. I am not sure that this is what I will do ;) I know when I get there. I still don't believe that I will cross that magical finish line.

Yes I agree. Now we focus on the finish line. Then we'll see, ok?

Consolidation in weeks 10 and 11 is a great idea. I want to do this too.

I have bigger circles for running here, that are not so flat.

I thought I'd try to run this way.

But I'm just looking at just another run too.

PS: My ears are ok, antibiotics I got only for locale use. I can run tomorrow! :-)

But the weather forecast says, the rain and the strong wind come at night.

Orcan should be in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) at night.

Wow! I do not know how I can run tomorrow .... 🙄

I am so glad that antibiotics allow you to run. Yey!

Orkan in "Karkonosze" (Polish version ;) ) sounds as a great enemy to defeat. I believe in you! Headbandon top of earphones, smile.on your face. Choose the route to have as mush wind in the back as possible. But first and foremost, stay safe!!! If it will be too windy, just postpone your run 1 day.

Woohoo! Congratulations. Your post run meal sounds absolutely delicious, too 😊. You're so strong. I'm right behind you now, so wondering if you felt the extra 3 minutes or if they were fine? Good luck completing your to do list, and good luck for your next run!

To be honest, it wasn't easy run for me, but not because of longer time. I didn't really feel this extra 3 minutes at all. I think physically I would be able to run for 35 minutes, I would just struggle longer. I would have to conquer my mind to do it ;)

The 3 minutes increase in time is due to joint and muscle safety, o keep us injury free. When you increase your time or milage it is advised to go up to 10% longer/further per week. It will be like that also after the programme. It may differ in you have a special programme that involves intervals or tempo runs, but if you run only long runs, this is general rule.

Told you -you for sure have a will of steel.... Not long from that hard won graduation. I’m looking forward to popping the fizz on the podium... :)

Thank you :) It means a lot for me.

Now, I need to overcome some other difficulties. But I will do my best to push through 5 more runs.

in reply to IgaT

I know you will do it, I hope you feel better soon XX

Thank you for believing in me. I jist know that my life tends to cross my plans close to the end. I know that one day I will finish it, but will it be next Friday? Life will show ;)

Well done Sweetie. Not sure just water is a good idea so just be careful.

A good run is a good run so happy days. A celebration is indeed called for 🐥🎈

It is only 24 hours, so no possibility to damage myself. As long as properly prepared before and proceed gently after ;) Of course, if no medication is taken / needed to take. So, thank you for worrying and good advice, I am very careful and aware of what I am doing. Just not sure about benefits that I would like to see.

Enjoy your next run :)
