Still a fair bit off the 5k mark. Impulsively bought a second hand treadmill as thought it would be handy for the winter months. Wow, does that take some getting used to. Gradually set the pace to 8k as I know I can do about 4.5k in 30 minutes. It felt so much faster than outside! Clearly need to do nothing but run on it as unceremoniously came off it about 15 minutes in whilst trying to change my music, lol. Nice friction burn being my reward for being an idiot! With that minor incident 4.82k in 33.59mins (that second off 34 mins is important). Hope it's a mild winter as that thing scares me!😱
Nearly there?: Still a fair bit off the 5k mark... - Couch to 5K
Nearly there?
The trainers are useful..I use mine when it is icy out there... a fall on ice is horrid..as was your fall too.. ouch! I can really shift on mine too :0 Well done you. Don't worry about the 5K... You are doing wonderfully!
Having graduated previously some years ago I can honestly say I would rather run in the foulest weather conditions, on the worst road/trail than on the dreadmill. But try varying your speed and incline as you go along rather than slogging it out at a fixed speed, you tend to do this naturally on a road run with the little inclines and declines even on what seems like the levelest of trails/roads. Good luck.
Thanks so much for the advice. My thinking is to only use it in extreme weather conditions, force 10 gales, blizzards etc so I really have no excuse but time will tell. I imagine it would be a bit tedious slogging along at one pace/ level. If I'm in fear for my life every time I use it that might add a frisson!
I got a treadmill during week 3 as was struggling to get out with young kids and a partner who works nights. I've found it fantastic for keeping me going. I put I player on and watch something for 30 mins whilst I run. I'm now on week 9 and can't wait to get to park runs.
My 9 year old nephew decided to have a play on it and unfortunately he got himself a good friction burn as he came off and hadn't put the auto stop clip on himself and then didn't move so it took a good chunk of his knee with it.... Ouch
Oh my, that sounds horrific. I think I got off lightly then! You've done brilliant. I struggle sometimes & only have myself & one demanding cat to look after! I think the treadmill will be a boon once I get a bit more used to it. Looking forward to a park run too. Have registered but not quite plucked up the courage yet!
Don’t tell anyone but... I think I will never take a gait analysis because I am afraid of treadmills 😬😳😃
So you are one of my heroes, no matter the unceremonious incident!!!
