W3R1 worries

I'm currently on w2 and had a peek at w3

Seems like quite a jump to go from running for 90 seconds W2 to running for 3 mins on W3

I'm not particularly struggling with 90 second runs but I don't think I can manage 3 mins.

Did anyone else feel this way??

I think everyone does! I was the same but as I was told when I posted something similar, take it slow and trust the programme 😊

Thank you! I'll see how it goes. Can always repeat if I need to I guess :)

I bet you don’t need to! That was my thinking but the programme just seems to somehow magically prepare you! Having said that I’ve got 20 minutes tomorrow!

Hi Mrun1, I thought it would difficult too but it’s actually ok as long as you don’t go too fast....

Go for it, I m sure you ll be ok and you will amaze yourself as much as I amazes myself 😁

Hoping I will amaze myself. I'm going pretty slow so far, more like a jog than a run...😳

Right now I'm constantly questioning myself, am I breathing properly, am I going slow enough, should I be going faster?! I'll get the hang of it all soon.

The best thing is that I'm enjoying it and I didn't think I would :)

Hi Mrun1

You probably aren’t breathing properly or going slow enough BUT you are enjoying it, so the technique will come as you do it more.

I watched other runners sailing (or accurately whizzing by) and how they ran, posture , breathing etc and then tried to copy them. The breathing and speed will kick in as you progress into the program when the duration of each run is such that you don’t have a choice.

C25K is amazingly well thought out and as far as I can see, as long as you follow it to the letter, all you have to do is motivate to get out the door and get started...

Good luck

Trust the plan, Almost everyone doubts the jumps, but they are all doable,

Thanks so much everyone for your encouragement!

I'll give it my best shot and hopefully I won't let myself down :)

Hah we all feel like that as we approach a new week. The fear is real. But once you’ve got through the first increase you settle in. Even if you can’t it doesn’t matter, you just repeat the run😀 you have done so well to complete week three? How did you feel about those before you nailed them? You can do it, you’ve done the work for it, you are prepared. Give it a go😀

To be honest I've found the first run of each week (only done 2 weeks so far) ok, but R2 and R3 are definitely easier than R1, recover time is much less and run feels like it passes quicker. So I'm hoping this will continue throughout all the weeks.

I'm thinking the same. But I'll keep going and I don't mind repeating a week if I find one particularly difficult.

When do you start W3? Please let me know how you get on. And good luck!

I did, but you just have to believe in yourself, slow and steady. You can do it 😀

You can always repeat weeks if you find its too much. I did most weeks twice before moving on as I was a total non runner. I am now doing the program again and racing through it because of the ground work I did last year. Slow and steady. Good luck.

Well done for sticking at it! To be honest I enjoy it so much more than I thought I would. I do go slow but I wonder if I'm going too slow...at this stage, as a total beginner, it's a case of just hoping I'm doing it right with regards to pace and breathing. If I struggle with the 3 mins I'll just repeat it until I feel ready to move forward to the next week!

The runs get tougher but so do you! If you follow the plan you will build your fitness and your mental toughness. You can do it. All the best.

Absolutely! I was filled with dread. And indeed Run 1 wasn't very nice in rain and a head wind! ( I turned around and the second three minutes seemed better..)

Run2 was much more pleasant amd I'm almost ( but not quite! ) looking froward to Run3.

I found W1 really hard and actually did it regularly for three weeks before I felt ready for W2, I may repeat W3 before I attempt W4 for the same reason. It doesn't matter if we repeat a week of course, as long as we keep running and don't skip any stages.

I bet it goes better than you think, anticipation is always worse than the event..

Thanks for your advice, nothing wrong at all with repeating weeks!

I'll see how it goes and if I struggle I'll keep repeating it until I no longer struggle with it :)

100% but honestly the jump was fine...in fact easier to do 2 longer bursts than lots of short ones. Don't be put off (I was!) It really is ok 😁

In fact i enjoyed it more! 🏃‍♀️

Mrun1 profile image
Mrun1Graduate in reply toKarenlwarner73

When you put it like that I actually imagine 2 longer bursts would be easier...

I think I'm not giving myself enough credit, and I'm worrying about this and hopefully I'll discover there was no need to worry!

After everyone's kind and supportive responses regarding this, I'm actually kind of looking forward to W3 now! :)

Without a doubt I felt like that and was scared of the increase. I'm now on week 6 run 2 and I'm telling you I don't know what it is about the programme but it works. 3 minutes feels like nothing to me now, 5 minutes (that I was so scared of ) is ok. I'm battling the 20 min gremlins but I have no doubt in time 20 mins won't be too much if an issue. It is all about progression and just getting through it. 3 mins may feel really tough this week but battle through it using any means possible. I used to count when I got desperate . I also started to listen to some of my in music because Laura's music was driving me mad. I promise you you can do it and in a couple of weeks you will wonder how you ever thought it so hard. We have all been there. My tip is do not give yourself an option to stop ( unless you injure yourself ir something really bad) because once you start with those thoughts it can be really tough. Stopping is not an option , be calm and you will suprise yourself . Good luck

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm currently on W3R2 and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. Like you, I also count when I get desperate, but I've noticed my recovery time is improving massively. It's weird how quickly the weeks pass and how much I'm actually enjoying this programme!

Congratulations on getting to w6! I imagine it feels really good to have stuck at it even though each week gets harder.

My trainer is Sarah, and she doesn't play me any music...am I missing something or does that start in later weeks?

Right now I'm wasting my 4G on listening to music on YouTube, but I really must sort out a proper running playlist on my phone!

Memebaby profile image
Memebaby in reply toMrun1

I'm not sure. On the podcast Laura plays music while you run but it's not great. I have compiled a running playlist on free Spotify. You get 30 mins if free music before it plays adverts for about a minute. Well done for getting run two done. I am literally scared witless of run three which is 25 mins continuous running. How will I ever do that. But we will both do it 😀

You could be sayibg exactly what went through my head! Ive done 2 of the week 3 runs and trust me and trust yourself, you WILL be able to do this! Also there is something more manageable about only 4 intervals of running I think. I cant believe i did it but somehow I did! Believe in you x

Thanks for your response! I actually wrote this a while ago now and have since graduated and continue to run 30 mins 3 times a week. The programme really was great with the way it builds up stamina and confidence. Those 9 weeks flew by.

Good luck with the rest of the programme. You've got this :)
