Tell my body I’m not 19

How do I tell my body it’s 59 not 19

I’m into wk3 r2 and first two runs I definitely take off a little too quick. My brain says I can run like I did in my teens but my body doesn’t agree

Smart move! I always tend to start with an incline..because despite my slow and steady mantra..I do have an urge to leap off like a mad March hare!!!

Your body will soon let you know if it is anything like mine ! I am 60..

So if I only could

I'd make a deal with God

And I'd get him to swap our places

I'd be running up that road

Be running up that hill

With no problems

Good old Kate Bush

You’re doing great... no idea how fit you were 40 years ago, but you can beat it.

Somehow I liked Kate Bush, very different to most of my listening

Me too! Whenever I hear a song of hers I go all nostalgic and realise how much I liked her back in the day. 🎶🎶

It gets better- just keep going and the results will amaze you week on week- you are still at an early stage- you can do it!

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. When I first started I thought I was too old but having read comments on these boards I don’t feel alone agewise

Three weeks ago I struggled to run a minute. Now I can see the benefits already

Spot on. I’m 58, 9 weeks ago I couldn’t run for a bus. I just ran a solid 30 minutes without collapsing at the end of it. It will definitely get you fitter and hooked on running but there are no shortcuts, you just need to follow the program. Go for it!

I’m 64 and I have the same problem. I keep repeating slow, slow, slow when I start a run and it seems to help. Good luck.

Aha, yes! Frustrating sometimes isn’t it? But give your body a good talking to - you want to be able to enjoy your runs and not risk injury. 😀

I watch gazelles spring past me, have a momentary feeling of envy, then realise I’m 54, not 24, and continue snailing on my way!

Have fun out there! 👍😀
