Didn't start off too great, had a pretty nasty shooting pain at the top of my left leg on the 5 min warm-up. Noticed it a bit this last month, feels like a nerve because it often just come and goes. Luckily it was gone by the time of the first run and everything else went fine.
Maybe going a bit too fast on the runs but will slow it down when I make the next step up.
Great job... maybe the exercise will help that niggle as it went during the warm up. If you can talk during the run it’s slow enough... if you have a slower gear that’s handy too for later. Your pace is also indicative of good walking pace between the runs, and that helps a lot as the muscles don’t cool between intervals.
Great advice thanks! I think I was at a pace I could talk to, breathing I found fine, probably run 4 had to catch my breath a little on the walk afterwards as it was uphill, but after about 30 seconds or so walking felt fine to go again. Not sure on the niggle, I walk quite a bit as well anyway (having a dog) and have noticed it then too (usually later on).
On the rest days I'm still doing a 4.5mile walk around the woods with the dog to keep my steps in, but will have to see how that goes later on. Unfortunately cocker spaniels don't let you have a real rest day!
I remember thats how I tackled the 20 minute run last time I did the CT5K, whatever speed I started it and felt comfortable at I just turned it down a couple of notches as I knew I was really going to have to pace myself.
I would normally do about 3 to be fair, I work from home, so really trying to at least get my 10k steps in a day at the moment. Worth it as well if our dog is at least tired on an evening!
many thanks, will try! I was running a bit before starting this so maybe the pace I am used to. I was running through woods, and was doing stretches of up to about 5 minutes when it was downhill or flat. I lost my dog for a minute and wasn't looking at the path and went over badly on my ankle. Was really badly strained (about 2 weeks ago now) so thought CT5K would be a good way to ease myself back into it. Also with the weather turning now, I really need to be sticking to safer places to run, so it seemed ideal. Hard to say, but going by the last time I'd say fitness wise maybe at around week 3ish, so could be why I'm going a little bit fast right now. Will defo keep an eye on it, but was running at a pace I felt comfortable with for now
I just completed my week one, second run. Stretching before and after helps me a lot. I was getting pain in my lower right leg until I started stretching.
Nice one, yep will try a few stretches on Saturday, hopefully will do the trick. Weird any niggles I normally have are late on a walk/run not on the warmup, but at least it went
I had thigh pain 8 weeks ago, turned out it was referral pain from a pulled muscle in bottom of back on the right. I took 8 weeks out to recover. Then started from scratch
Awful when something like that puts a stop to your plans. I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago running through the woods and was devastated as I was really starting to enjoy running through the woods by us. Why I went back to CT5K really as I thought it would be a good way to ease back into it (and hopefully graduate this time!) Hills on this route were only minor, hard to avoid them around here in West Yorks though, so will have to deal with them at some point!
The early runs have lots of intervals so you could always pick one of the 1 minute jogs to do a bit quicker. I do the 4th or 5th a bit faster but slow down the others so I can hold a (short!) conversation.
