So last week I suggested a few of us at work could do the C25K. So on Thursday we went for our first run and I couldn’t keep up, they ran so much faster. I’ve decided that I will go out by myself rather than in a group so I can build up my confidence and speed. Just been out by myself today and it was a bit easier, but I’m struggling to breathe well, always gasping for air! Hopefully this will get better!!
Week 1 Run 3: So last week I suggested a few of... - Couch to 5K
Week 1 Run 3
Welcome to the forum and well done on making the decision to do it at your own pace.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Enjoy your journey and remember it is not a race.
Welcome! 😀😀
You definitely did the right thing, and I’m willing to bet it’ll be hare and tortoise scenario with you and your friends! Slow and steady wins the race, and you’ve worked that out already. 👏👏
If you’re still finding it tough going, you can slow down even more. Come and join the snail club. 🐌 There are loads of us in it!
Good for you starting this fabulous programme! You’re sure to love it. 👍🏻
Well done and welcome. Breathing will get better... try to push it out of your mind, relax and it will get there all by itself.
It will get easier. Just go at your own pace (as you are). good luck
Yeah, if you’re tense/anxious you’ll be using more energy and breathing at the top of your lungs. The early runs don’t allow you to get into a rhythm, either, but you’ll find it. Well done on getting through the first week. Many of us have embraced the ‘inner snail’ 🐌🐌🐌 and have gone on to run longer and faster at a later date. Pick a point on the horizon to look at, open up your shoulders and gently swing your arms with a slight bend at the elbows. Careful not to clench your fists, jaw or tense your neck or shoulders. Try to enjoy it, it isn’t a set of sprints. All the best and keep running 😁🤞🏻
Hello. I haven’t posted on here yet but just felt the need to respond to your post today. I felt just like you did a few weeks ago. Lacking in confidence and wondering what the hell I was doing. All I can say is I am now on week 5 and this morning I ran 8 minutes without stopping .... they will teach you how to breathe and this will get better .... persevere with it ! do not give up ! and you like me will feel this pride in only a few short weeks. Good luck
I'm on week 9 and still find the breathing a bit tricky for the first 5 minutes but once I get my rhythm I forget about the breathing and it just sorts itself out! Keep going, as its amazing what you will achieve. Every week I think I will hit a wall but so far so good. Some days are definitely easier than others so if you have a bad day, chances are the next one will be really good.😀
Hiya
Well done for starting lovely!! It is hard at first because your body is like "what are you doing to me?!" But it does get easier & hopefully you'll start to enjoy it
I'm currently on Week 4 Run 1, literally just completed that one, I'm so hot!!
Just don't go too fast, pace yourself so it's a steady jog
