First Canicross of the new season

The vet has said I can let Merlin do what he feels able to do while not letting him do too much, so I decided I’d take him and Taylor Beagle to a local, beginners 5k run this morning.

I set off at a walk, ahead of the others to get the three of us warmed up, so by the time everyone else had caught up, part way up the first hill, he was raring to go.

I had to give him a few extra walk breaks, but beginners runs are always stop start anyway, so that was no problem. And at the end I made him take the easy route back to the car, which really confused him, when he had to watch everyone else run off in a different direction.

It was really great to be back with my Canicross buddies, and the dogs were all very happy to see each other too.

One thing is certain, I am going to have to learn to run faster as soon as possible!

Is it cooler up your way yet?

Well, the warmest we had was in May but nothing like down South!! I much prefer cooler runs but not the driving rain that we sometimes have up here.

Excellent news 😍

I’m doing a rapid 4 weeks to 5k with the dogs in preparation for the Surrey Hills Challenge in - oddly enough - 4 weeks time. I think I’m fit enough to do it. But we’ll soon find out!
