C3 βœ… The long awaited inaugural run with hubbie πŸ˜† and maybe not the last!

So Sunday morning arrived but at 2 degrees πŸ₯Ά we waited for a couple of hours until 11am for the temperature to reach a balmy 4 degrees! 🌝 We’d already decided to do the route of down the road, across at the huge🚦 intersection and along the old railway line, now a wide tarmac path, which was a repeat of my graduation run, only a week before πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ I’ve been using Runkeeper to check my distances to see if I can get some consistency, but haven’t been confident that they’re correct so John said he’d check it as he runs it regularly πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

For those of you not in the know, I’d kept doing C25K a secret from everyone, including my husband, and the plan had been to surprise him on my graduation run. Unfortunately I had to fess up a few runs short when I developed tendonitis πŸ˜• as he was so concerned and couldn’t understand how on earth it had come about πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

We got prepped, did the dynamic exercises πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ and off we set on the warm up walk. He runs β€˜naked’ but I have to have my 🎢 so I just had to say start and stop! He said he was more than happy to run at my pace 🐒(just as well as I can’t run at his 🀣) so we jogged along in happy companionship exchanging smiles 😬... whoops sorry should’ve been πŸ˜ƒ...nods that I was ok πŸ‘Œ and the occasional few words, with me able to keep him abreast of what 🎢 were playing. It felt very different running alongside someone else πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ (well sometimes in front or behind too depending upon what on earth I was doing πŸ˜‚) but I did eventually settle down into a steady rhythm, which John later told me felt much better on his knees than usual πŸ˜†

At 30 minutes I said βœ‹ and we walked the rest of the way back home, did the stretches then breakfast. Apparently we’d covered 4.49 km (and Runkeeper concurred) so maybe I will be able to continue for a bit further to 5K before too much longer but will stick with 30 mins runs for the next 2 weeks.

Hubbie said he absolutely loved that I could now run with him (occasionally I’ve said!) so it’s made the effort all the more worthwhile πŸ₯°

So I’ll be back to πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ on my own again for the next couple of runs but so long as I can continue to get out and keep motivated I’m a happy πŸ‡

Hope everyone is having as good a week as possible with everything that’s going on and happy πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

A great success story, I bet he was really surprised when he found out, also very proud when he watched you actually run! very nearly a 5k too πŸ‘πŸ» that's brilliant πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes he was totally surprised, and soooooo proud 😊 I knew he’d be so thrilled if we could occasionally run together, something else to look forward to doing when we retire back to the UK in a couple of years. My dream is for us to be able to run the 5k across the Toronto Islands together before we leave here, so that’s looking very achievable now πŸ‘ŒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

That’s great! And sounds like a lovely run together. Almost 5k too! Well done! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

Thank you 😊 yes the distance covered rather surprised me, I don’t feel as though I should be running that fast (well, it’s not fast but you know what I mean) but I seem to settle into a steady rhythm so guess it’s ok. The main thing for me right now is to carry on with achieving 30 mins as I’m worried if I start doing shorter runs I won’t manage 30 again πŸ˜‚

Awhhhh, so lovely to read! As a newbie runner with a runner husband I know how nice it is suddenly to have a common hobby. Lovely!!! Happy many runs together!

Thank you 😊 I knew it was something he’d really love us to do, but as I’ve always hated running with a passion I don’t think he ever thought would be an option. Let’s hope I can keep it up πŸ˜‚

Go girl! πŸ™Œ

Look at you πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ alongside John all runner like! πŸ˜πŸ˜†

Who cares whether it was 5k or not!

I’m so pleased for you πŸ€—

2-4degrees is a bit serious though I’m sure it’s gonna get colder still πŸ₯Ά ❄️

How are you finding running when it’s that chilly? You’re not still in a T-shirt?

The β€˜sunny’ Isle of Wight (it’s 🌧down today) is a positively balmy 12 degrees 😊

I have to say it really did feel weird running with someone when I’ve always been on my my own. Kept worrying I was going to trip him up 😬 🀣

Once we were out and walking to warm up it didn’t feel too bad, I wore a long sleeved t shirt and long leggings for the first time but I did warm up quite quickly. I’m going to have to get some warmer clothes though but I do prefer it cooler than hot and humid which I hate πŸ₯΅ I’m not looking forward to the minus 20 tho’ that’s for sure πŸ₯Ά It’s already been snowing not that much further north, so will definitely prefer to ski rather than run in that πŸ˜‚

Hope you’re having a good week off 😊

MinnieMoo55 profile image
MinnieMoo55Graduateβ€’ in reply toCazzaW

The image of you tripping up hubby is not a good one πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I’ve been in long leggings and long sleeve zip up for a few runs now which just shows what a wuss I am. I’d probably been in thermals over where you are! πŸ₯Ά

Week off is doing bits round the house and some chilling 😊The weather is pretty much dictating that 🌧

Good you’re having a break away from the laptop though (well I hope you are 🧐) and are enjoying some down time 😊

I gather the weather is supposed to get better and warmer so hope you’re able to enjoy it if it does 🀞🌞

Aaaaw fabulous Caroline!

Hey maybe you can teach him a thing or two...sounds like he’s been running too fast πŸ˜‚

An occasional run with him sounds like a great way to mix it up πŸ‘

Good distance too...was that just the 30 minutes, or did it include the walking? I managed 4.3k, including walking, on Sunday 😊

Wet here today...may get out after midday, I think I would prefer your cold and dry weather.

Happy running! πŸŒπŸ’πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸπŸ§‘πŸ‚β„οΈ

Thanks Lottie 😊 funny you should say that as he now does β€˜my’ warm up exercises and a 5 min warm up walk before he runs and a warm down walk too πŸ‘Œ Unsurprisingly his hips and knees warm up much better now πŸ™„ and yes, running slower helped too πŸ˜‚ Who’d have ever thought I’d have become so knowledgeable πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€£ just shows how good this programme is πŸ‘

Yes, that was in 30 minutes, an unexpected surprise as I thought Runkeeper had been kidding me πŸ˜‰ You’re covering good ground too, I think it’s just whatever comfortable rhythm we get into that’s important πŸ™‚

Sorry about your rain 🌧 yes you’re like me and prefer cold and dry 😊 hope you get out later πŸ€žπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Ah thank you Wardlewunner, so glad it’s cheered you up 😊 It must be so frustrating for you but good you’re still keeping an eye on what we’re all up to πŸ˜‰

I must give Mrs Wife a nudge to run with me πŸ‘ but maybe not today......

That was a super read πŸ˜ƒβœ¨ I imagine there were bonuses for each of you in that run πŸ‘Œ.

Your runs are sounding really steady and progressive too , inching away towards that 5k.

Won’t be long , I think sticking to 30 mins is paying off for you πŸ‘

I’m so looking forward to your Toronto Islands post πŸ˜ƒ
