Recently (yesterday night) I have had to move back to my parents home in the countryside from Newcastle for work. I’m going to be living here for 3 or so weeks before moving to London with my partner (he’s still in Newcastle).
It was a lush evening and I was feeling really down, haven’t lived at home for 8 years now and really liked my own space! So I decided to go for a run.
It was like the SECOND I set off the world was against me - I was running in fields which set my hay fever and asthma off, up a giant hill, and on uneven ground. I couldn’t get my breath right at all and just hated every second which I’ve never felt like before.
Stopped after 1.3k and Just walked to get my 10,000 steps. Weird to think I did 7k on Sunday with ease and tonight literally 30 seconds felt like my lungs were burning.
I’m now not sure what I should do from here - I don’t know where I can run and I’m feeling super sad 😞.

Hi there - first thing to do is chalk it down to experience and forget about it. It happens to the best of us.
I had great run last week my longest yet - 6.5. Then like you on Monday went out and had an awful run - completely ran out of energy and every time I lifted my leg it felt like a lead weight. Went out tonight fora 5k and it in my second best time and feel great.
There’s loads of things that may have affected you lack of hydration, too tired your current situation - loads. Don’t dwell on it - you’ll smash it next time 😁
Thanks PaulBrad. I woke up this morning feeling much better, decided that running around the fields near me isn't going to work so have joined the local gym, jog there is about 1k, then did a 5k on the treadmill and jogged home - much happier today!
So many things against you of which stress is probably the biggest. I see at least three stresses before you set off, but you got out there and gave it a go. London will be more like you’re used to, apart from the pavements are made of gold and so a little soft, so you just need to keep it ticking over... probably with a hay fever tablet.
Thanks unfitnomore - lots of decongestants and sudofed for me!
Decided to join our local gym for a month no contract so I can jog there (1k) do my 5k on a treadmill away from these damn fields and jog home to keep myself ticking over before I hit the wide world of London.
Sounds good... we’ll actually it sounds like my idea of hell, I’m definitely a country runner hence my choice of goal marathon. Should do you well until you’re pounding the urban trail again though👍
Cheer up! Was there a beautiful scenery and did you enjoy walking? You did ten thousand step! This is still an achievement. There’s always tomorrow. Just take one day at a time. You did your best given the other factors.
Please don’t worry. Sounds as though you’ve got a lot on your plate right now and what you need is some tlc. Not surprised that you didn’t manage a great deal of running with a combo of hay fever and asthma- you did really well to walk the distance. It sounds pretty strenuous with a massive hill with all that going on too. Look after yourself now and no beating yourself up!
