My personal recommendation is that once you have reached W5, you really do need to be wearing appropriate footwear.

This post healthunlocked.com/couchto5... gives general advice on buying running shoes and within it there is a link to another post dealing with gait analysis, explaining how to go about it.

Those two should answer most of your questions.

As soon as you can

I don't think I'd still be running if I hadn't got my new runners after gait analysis. My feet are so bad! 👟👟

I had mine done today - google it with your location. I had the choice of doing it outside in the high street (😳) or on a treadmill in the shop - I chose the treadmill!

Only 30s or so in a neutral shoe, then depending on what they see on the video they try different shoes and video again to get your gait as good as it can be

Google ‘gait analysis near me’ once you know you’ll carry on, towards the end if c25k I’d suggest 👍🏽

When I bought my running shoes I went to a proper running shop and it was the first thing they did. All the staff were runners and very helpful. They asked where I was running and recommended shoes based on gait analysis and our conversation. I went to Running Bear in Alderly Edge.

I got my gait checked and bought new shoes after W1R1. Took about half-an-hour on treadmill with video and trying on a selection of different shoes. I decided I was committed to completing C25K and didn’t want to injure myself in my 15+ year old trainers! I’m pleased I did. They made a big difference. Although (for me) they cost a fortune (£120). Now on W8R2 and don’t feel I bought them too early.

£120 is a lot of money when you compare them to cheap trainers and it is a lot to splash.

But it’s your main piece of equipment (other than your body) and main, most crucial piece of protection (except perhaps a decent sports bra for ladies).

Good, well fitting shoes make running a pleasure. Bad shoes can cripple you.

I’m glad you splashed out 😊
