At work we were talking about how we keep motivated on treadmills / stop ourselves getting bored and my experienced runner friend (think 10k every week) told me she listens to audio books! Now, I am a massive bookworm so I thought I'd give this a go instead of watching shows like I usually do.
As I was feeling a bit heavy legged I made sure to do a 10 minute warm up instead of the 5 and then moved treadmills and started measuring my distance from when I began jogging (just for interest).
It was amazing how different it was.
I didn't once think about time or distance or speed, just plodded along listening to some thriller mystery for the 28 minutes!! I was actually really annoyed when Laura said stop!
About 3 mins into the cool down walk.. I checked my FitBit and realised I had covered 4.55k.. so I made the executive decision to carry on to the 5!
I ran it in 36 minutes!!
So yes - slightly not sticking fully to week 8, but SUPER PLEASED WITH MYSELF.

Wooh hoo! Go Becky! That’s brilliant! Loved the part where you were annoyed when told to stop! How dare Laura interrupt the story eh?! 😂 Brilliant distance too! I tried a podcast once, but only for a few mins and couldn’t get into it. It was early days, so I might try an audio book sometime! 😁❤️
Thanks so much Fabulous, I am honestly dead pleased (even if it was slightly off plan..). Lol I was like Laura come on it's just getting good we were in this whole dramatic chapter and I suddenly hear "cool down".. not the most fitting of things! If you're a bookworm I strongly recommend audiobooks <3
I totally love my audiobooks!! I use them on my 45 minute drive to work and back every day. I am listening to a particularly entertaining science fiction book right now, and I started listening to it during my runs. The time just slides right by and I am done before I know it, especially if there is a battle scene! 😂😂
I always listen to a book when I run. It really helps pass the time especially as you run further. I like to multitask! I don’t think that the spoken word helps with speed but for distance it’s great. Just finished Jo Nesbo. Nothing like a Nordic noir to quicken the heart!
