Heat delays consolidation

I hate to complain about all this lovely weather and ordinarily I would be loving it. However, since I am now ‘a runner’ I AM complaining haha. I can’t run in this heat and my early morning is around 11am! Being a night worker is not conducive to running in summer. I even thought about running when I got back at 4am, but my bed was screaming for me 😴. Ah well, bimbling round the garden, deadheading, will have to do for now. Sadly, but also gladly haha, i doubt this heat wave will last for very long 😏

It’s too hot for me too.

I’m lucky to work office hours and have a fair bit of flexibility most of the time so I’m going out first thing tomorrow. First thing being after you will be back off a shift!

Enjoy it when you get to it.

You say lucky, but I hated working in an office haha. My office now is just me, the open road (apart from when they’re closed which is most nights 😠) the radio or an audible book and ever changing scenery 👍. It’s just now I’m beginning to think differently 😂

Is too blooming hot!! I’m sure many of our alarms will be going off as you tuck yourself into bed tomorrow. Early morning runs for now. 😴😬

Sounds like a nightmare!! It was lovely at 5:30, he said helpfully. The weather will be back to normal soon enough tho. Then we'll have a new grumble. Bloody rain xx

Ahh rain, she says wistfully haha. I’m fine with rain. Keeps everything nice and cool and fresh 😌

I remember rain. Ah, the old days eh?

it's due to be 27C here in Belfast on Thursday. This madness can't last much longer can it? :D

No way. I think the weather is over exerting itself already. If it doesn’t stop soon there’ll be nothing left for the glorious Indian summer we are all hoping for, sunny, but cool & fresh. A girl can dream anyway 😂

I feel your pain Sandie. I work nights too, used to drive a car transporter, now I’m in the office from 17:00 till 03:00.

I did a trial run a couple months back to see if I could run when I got back from work and it wasn’t too bad, apart from the drunks, even at 03:30 on a Wednesday morning 😆

I’ve just got back from a “run” at 15:00 in 28 degree heat, but I think I’ll do my next one at night.

I have to go a different route to stay in well lit areas, but at least I can get out. 🌜🏃🏻‍♂️

Car transporter? Respect ✊. I drive artics but all curtainsiders now, and 80% trailer swaps, it doesn’t get any easier haha. I’ve done my time on general haulage 😂. I changed to nights a few years ago. Much prefer the quieter roads haha

Like you say, quiet because they’re all closed 😆 I did 17 years on transporters on nights, had a dizzy spell from an inner ear problem and they took my hgv and car licenses off me. Got them back now, but ended up sat behind the desk too long to go back. 🚚🚚🚚🚚

Oh no. Or was it a blessing in disguise? Can’t imagine sitting behind a desk again instead of the glamour of Lockerbie truck stop which is where I am now haha

Another 10 years and I would have welcomed it, but life rarely comes at you the way you’d like. I was more annoyed that it was a misdiagnosis from the gp that nearly cost me my home.

Did you guys run through the winter? Darkness, cold rain and sleet? Icy wind? Give me this any day.

Au contraire, it’s not too bad running in the snow. I enjoy running in rain. Running in heat is horrendous. But I’m enjoying the summer and generally hate winter!

The trouble with this country is it’s either freezing cold or boiling hot - or gale force winds & rain! There’s no happy medium. I have to run in the gym in this weather but I understand how frustrating it must be. I take my hat off to anyone who gets up at stupid o’clock to run (Sallenson).

I don't believe there is such thing as 'bad' weather. The weather just 'is' and it's all to do with how we perceive it. I have this system where I go and run regardless of the weather. Literary. When I trained for half marathon there was no room for options but to go out there and do it. Which I did, and now I'm doing it again. Yes, at times it would involve running before dawn in January, or at 1pm last Saturday when I did a 15K practice run in fairly warm weather but if you prepare and plan, and if you ignore the elements (as I tend to), then you are very likely to actually enjoy yourself. And yes, I do run when I go on holiday too. ;)

in reply tomrrun

Well then you put me to shame. I’ll just give up now.......

Noooo, lol, never!!! The idea is that it's all do-able and meant to be fun! You'll get better and fitter, the hair will look gorgeous when lashed with rain, and the skin gets radiant with all this vitamin D. And you can wear crazy gear and people will honk their car horns when they see you at minus 5C trying to keep balanced when bashed by gale force winds! You see? And anything better is just a bonus! It all seems more pleasant now! :)

in reply tomrrun

😂😂😂 I’ll take your word for it & stick to my (air-conditioned) gym for now! 😉

Well, tell you what - for as long as you keep on running, it all counts! :)

Everyone thinks I'm a bit weird but I'm definitely an autumn winter girl, the heat just drains me 😓 wherever possible I'll be hibernating.

Passed quite a few people running today though when I was on my home around 12ish 😲 hats off to them think I'd keel over.

in reply toSendWine

Me too! I much prefer Autumn & the run up to Christmas. I like to see the sun but I really suffer in the heat.

You could buy a 2nd hand treadmill off eBay quite cheaply and put a fan next to it to run indoors ... That's what I am doing... Just a thought? X

SandieF profile image

I like that thought ... all except having a stonking great treadmill in my living room haha. I’ll go to the gym if I get desperate haha
