I graduated in May. I can do park run in 34mins and happy with that but it nearly kills me when I do it. My normal pace is 5km in around 40 mins . However just recently I’ve been struggling to even manage 4km. I get puffed out and have been walk run walk running. I think my pace may have picked up naturally but my breathing can’t keep up. Also lovely though it is, I am super struggling in this heat. I’ve not been out since last Saturday and won’t be able to now until next Tuesday earliest. I’m hoping a complete week off then restarting will be the motivation I need. I plan to sloooowww down leave the strava and watch at home and just see how I get on. Anyone else finding it hard in the heat?
No mojo in this heat: I graduated in May. I can... - Couch to 5K
No mojo in this heat
Yes. heats not helping, sounds like you're doing the right thing by slowing down, the time doesn't really matter for now at Parkrun does it? just as long as you can complete it comfortably and enjoy..
yep, I love the sun and heat. But I am just no good running in it!! I really struggle. Went out in it last week and I felt ill!! I find early mornings better if I can get out of bed, much cooler. my pace is very slow. slow miles better than no miles!! I don't wear a watch, do use strava but don't look at it till I'm finished. good luck!
Have you considered running early in the morning? On weekday's I leave the house at 5.30 and weekend's 6.30. It's much cooler than running during the day.
Yes it’s horrid! Apart from running club and ParkRun, I go to the gym to run unless it’s cooler. Roll on autumn!
Everybody is struggling, make no mistake. I’m in the Adriatic, Croatian coast, and it’s dangerously hot with high humidity. The Celsius is hovering around 35C in the shade at the moment and thankfully everything, everywhere is air conditioned. I manage running every other day and limit myself to 5K but you really need to love running in order to do it here and now, at times it’s mental and l only run in the evening when the sun goes down.
Forget strava and whatever else, run slowly, limit yourself, avoid daytime and sun peaks and hydrate lots. Or wait until this is over. And this is coming from somebody who actually likes this weather.
The double whammy of heat and high humidity really messes with running. Most experienced runners hit their best times in spring and autumn.
