Heat

I’m going to do w2r1 today. I’m desperately hoping the heat subsides just a bit. Currently reading 29 degrees. So hot, but I don’t want to lose momentum. If I don’t go it will mess up my whole week. Any tips for running in this heat?

If you don’t go, no it won’t mess up your whole week. But you will have to find another day/time to run.

Tips: main one is avoid the heat! Run very early morning (before 7am ideally) or very late at night (well after 8pm).

Keep well hydrated - the heat is attacking you all the time, not just when you are running.

Keep out of the sun, ideally with a light hat. Sunscreen helps if you are out in it long.

The problem I have is, that I’m going away a week Friday and want to get all my runs in, which means running Mon, wed, fri and sun this week and Tuesday and Thursday next week. Thus enabling the weekend away. I think I’ll just have to go out at 8pm. I did a run in the heat last week, which was my first week and I didn’t enjoy it at all which is probably why I’m feeling so apprehensive today.

Just bear in mind it will be harder so go slower.

Avoid the heat if possible, l did W7:!R3 on Friday when l got home ar about 3.30pm and l hated every second of it. l have a little drink before l go out and avoid breathing through my mouth otherwise dry throat. Go at a speed that's comfortable and slow if you need to.
