How does everyone cope with heat?

I didn’t realise that next week where I am there will be a heat wave on one of my run days (at the time I run it’s about 17 degrees but will feel like 20 - I sound awful but I don’t cope with the heat brilliantly) - do any of you runners not run at all on that day and wait until a cooler day or how do you gear up/prepare for the more hotter weather? I run early on purpose so it isn’t hot, but don’t want to ruin my running schedule by missing a day!

I tend to go out really early as I too struggle with the heat. It can still be unbearable but much better than waiting for later.

I know some people prefer to go out in the evening but I haven't tried this.

Good luck

I’m out the door by 8 am if it’s hot.

I try to go out early even though I prefer running midmorning but I really struggle in the heat. A couple of weeks ago when we had a really warm spell I changed one of my running days to a cooler day. This coming week I'm considering changing days as well - it's looking way too warm (for me!) midweek 🌡️🔥😳

I am potentially considering it 😬 one of my run days are Wednesday and it looks a bit too hot for my liking 😖

Yep, that's exactly the day I'm trying to avoid! 🥵

Early, early morning tends to be a bit cooler than the evening, even if you leave running until quite late. At least things like roads etc have had a bit of a chance to cool down overnight, whereas on an evening they still hold all their heat from the days sun. Don’t forget to drink even more water ! Too be honest when it’s really hot I usually take water with me as I normally need it at some point.

Yeah might end up taking a bottle of water with me for my Wednesday run and maybe leaving a tad earlier than I usually do 😂 thank you

Oh yeah, I forgot to say I've started drinking a lot more water and now I even keep a bottle on my bedside table overnight. Might start taking a bottle with me, so far I've managed without but I always chew gum or my mouth and throat get way too dry!

I drink about 8 glasses of water a day so hopefully that's enough 😬 I'd be too scared to chew gum incase I choked on it hahaha, but that makes sense. Thank you for the advice :)

Wear as little as possible (seriously), slow your pace right down and make take a little cold water with you (or ice cold cloth) and dab it on your neck and wrists when you feel hot.

Awesome ok, I'll make sure I have something like that to bring with me for Wednesday then. Thank you! :)

It is light before 5am these days and if it is going to be hot, that is when I will be running.

Extra hydration in the preceding 24 hours.

Didn't think of that - I'm usually out the door by 6am but might go a little bit earlier for that run if it makes the slightest difference. Thank you! :)

Same, I run around 6am when it is much cooler. When it is mid-teen to twenties it is far too hot. Sucks all the energy out of you.

That's what I'm worried about hahah, I'm so used to running in 10-13 degrees, so can't imagine doing that running in near twenties 😬

I find avoidance works pretty well 😂 I generally run in the evening anyway, but on those extra warm days if I have to go I go late, like getting dark late 😊
