Not starting week 9

Well after a fantastic week 8, I'm not going to be starting my week 9 runs tomorrow as planned.

I've done something to my right calf muscle and whilst I can cope with the pain and discomfort, I'm going to do the sensible thing and listen to my body and rest, rather than push on, risking further damage.

Whilst I couldn't say for sure what's caused this, i suspect that it was the moment my right foot landed awkwardly on an uneven surface during my last run.

It's a little niggling that it's unlikely that I will be graduating at the weekend as planned, but all in all I remain happy, proud of how far I've got so far, and motivated, determined and optomistic about not only graduating in the very near future, but also completing the 5k distance.

As I say I remain in good spirits and will complete this, as it's quite possibly one of the best things I have ever decided to do with my life.

I'm going to look at this with this positive spin.

That 45 year old, overweight person who was out of breath tying up his shoelaces 2 months ago and had not done any sport for almost 30 years, is now able to run non stop for over 28 minutes none stop, is currently having to take a short break from his training schedule due to a "Sporting Injury".

I'll be back, more focussed and determined than before😀😀😀🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Taking time to rest an injury is more important than a timetable, disappointing as it is. Good luck!

Oh no sorry to here that, I think ccarter100 sums it up perfectly, taking time to rest an injury is more important than keeping to a timetable.

I've read a lot of posts whereby people have been told they won't loose the stamina they have built up in a week or two , so not too worried.

Hope you heal soon

Most of the time the pain seems to have completely disappeared, but every now then I get a small but bearable pain. I'm desperate to get back out there running and most of the time feel fine and think I'll be ok, but that occasional pain tells me my calf muscle isn't quite as ready as I would like it to be.

Guess it's just a question of time and patience.

Great news well done, hope the shin holds out. Have you had your gait analysis done? There's been a lot of talk on here regarding saying it helps with shin pain.

Mines been a combination of resting, a lot of walking and calf strengthening exercises several times a day. I was still getting the odd twinge in the muscle on Monday, but touch wood it has felt fine ever since, so will be heading out there tonight to see how things go. Still vigorously doing my calf strengthening exercises and ironically the injured leg now feels better than the other one!!

That's the spirit!

I am sure a short rest now to allow time to recover vs. forcing it and risking further injury, is the right choice that will allow you to complete your W9 quicker. Keep it up!
