Week 4 got off to a great start, I'd nailed the 3 minute run in week 3 and was feeling a little bit cocky, 5 minutes was going to be no problem! Then my shoelace came loose just before the end of the first 5 minute run and i crashed into the grass! I put my embarrassment behind me and carried on, determined to complete the second 5 minute run without stopping. Sadly, it was a little bit beyond me and I slowed down to almost a walk just before the end. I promised to try harder on run 2.
The next day I developed an ear infection which made it almost impossible to walk, never mind run. I took 5 days off to let the antibiotics do their thing and repeated the W3R3 before carrying on to week 4.
I'm a bit disappointed that I'm behind schedule now, by my reckoning I'd have been on W6R1. However I think giving myself a break to recover was the best decision I could have made. And repeating the last run of Week 3 after a break was also a good idea. I'm now fully recovered and have enjoyed week 4. So to anyone who is struggling, or just feels like they are going too fast, take a short break, repeat what you have done until you feel confident enough to go on. I know that if Id carried on with week 4 while I was unwell, I'd have probably got fed up with the whole idea of running and packed it in.
Now I'm truly ready for week 5, not thrilled at the prospect of longer runs, I've got quite fond of 3 minute bursts, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
Keep on running buddies
