Does anyone else get a runny nose when they are running?

In February, I blamed it on the cold.

In Spring, I blamed it on the pollen.

Now, I'm not sure what to blame...

Yes, often, and I have to wipe my top lip regularly when it happens.

I’ve only been running for 8 weeks, but yes! I’ve put it down to hay fever - taking a tablet before running seems to help 😉

Most runners do get a runny nose when running, I make sure I have a handkerchief before I go out for a run

The weather here is so rubbish that I can still blame it on the cold! I’m allergic to most of nature so for me, hay fever usually plays a part.

I think it’s just one of those annoyances that happens to most of us.

Yes! I have to run with a hankie in one hand. My nose runs faster than I do! 🤣

I always have to stop for a good blow! No idea why 😬

yep as soon as I go my nose starts to run 😫

I take plenty of kitchen roll and have perfected running and blowing at the same time.

Sorry I don’t have any tips but will be keeping an eye on this post!!

Yes every time. In my case the cause is bisoprolol and a runny nose is a common side effect.

Oh yes and if I forget to pick up a tissue before I set off the run is pretty much ruined.

It can happen when I eat too and not just curries.

A simple google search: Exercise-induced rhinitis.

But I'm glad I'm not alone...

Its condensation. The inside of your nose is warm, air cold so condensates.

With my old science teacher hat on, it’s the other way round…warm air hitting a cold surface causes condensation. You’re right that your nose is warm and the air is cold-that’s one of the jobs of your nose…to warm the air up before it hits your lungs although on a cold day, it doesn’t always feel very effective!

That makes more sense 🙂

Yes, I need roughly one tissue per 2KM, so 5 for a 10K!

And it was far worse when I used to be a swimmer, my nose just ran all the time, even after a swim.

You've worked out the rate! Runners and their stats!! 😂

Thinking about it, that's about the same for me too! 🤣

This is the sort of maths they should teach in school,

Yep, my nose runs and so do my eyes! I have a tissue in my right hand for my eyes and a tissue in my left hand for my nose ... and never the twain shall meet!

Isn't that what buffs are for?!? Seriously, though, yes, my nose runs as I run. I do take a cloth hanky with me and only use the buff if I forgot it... I figure it has something to do with the movement of running as my nose also tends to run when I chew food.

Yes, me your, always! Glad in a way to hear it’s a common problem!

Probably the blockages are opening up. My own hypothesis.

Maybe you just have a nose that enjoys running, as you are learning to do. :) Mine does not run, but I still enjoy running🤣

Yes, I always take a large piece of super absorbent kitchen roll with me. Once my nose starts to run it just doesn’t stop! Wish I had the same energy 😂
