Advice needed - should i stop?

Help required. Been ticking along quite nicely, due to start week 7 run 3 tomorrow. However I've been experiencing some hip pain which has radiated into my lower back. It's not an injury just muscle tightness. So I've been for a massage this morning & been told to have a few weeks off!! I don't want to stop I'm so close to graduating. Experienced runners - what should I do?

I have this sometimes. Try this

Sit in a chair, with your back straight and put your ankle on the other knee- to make a triangle

Slowly bend forwards, keeping your back straight. You will feel the muscles pulling

This is a great exercise because you can do it sitting at your desk or wherever. I do it all the time and it really helps me

Google 'runners bum'- (there is a posh term too!) and you will find lots of exercises/youtube posts that will help.

Don't be downhearted. It hasn't stopped me running :)

Thanks helen much appreciated. Been doing lots of stretching - just not surw whether to heed the physio's advice. To be honest the massage was agony & I feel worse now!!

You should probably listen to a Physio😶

I see a lady every 6 weeks for my back and always feel worse the day after. At the time of the massage it’s agony. On the second day after it’s marvellous. Just go at your pace x

I would suggest, listen to the physio. They are experts for some reason and I think with body it’s better to be safe than sorry. If the injury occurs then it may put you out for months.

Good luck with recovery!

Have you had a gait analysis done and got some well fitting trainers? Just a thought, but trainers which don’t suit your movement can contribute to these sorts of aches and pains. Good luck with finding a solution!

Take Hidden advice... and listen to your physio.. the runs will wait until you can enjoy them safely:)

My wife does yoga classes and that helped with her hip and back pain. The stretching exercises she’s shown me has helped loads with my calf and groin pain .
