Advice Needed.....

So, I've graduated and been doing my consolidation runs all over the place and next week I'll be in France doing some more. Howeverrrr I'm thinking...... when I get back I think I'll try a park run BUT do I have to register and organise or do I just show up on the day?

Any tips for the next part of my running experience gratefully received 😀

You need to register and print your barcodes... remember to take at least one with you. No need to tell them you’re coming though. Get there for 8:45, there’s usually a new runners briefing. Get yourself towards the back of the runners for the start and go at your usual pace, don’t try and keep up with anyone, you may get into that with someone who goes off slow but has a fast middle and end mile. Other than that, do your stuff and enjoy it.

Thanks for that. I presume that the bar codes don't expire and I just use them each time I go?

Yeah... register once and you’re all set for any parkrun worldwide.

Thanks, just on the web site - butterflies! I haven't even started yet 🙄

😂 you’re gonna be just fine!

If you’re going to drive to parkrun, leave one of the spare barcodes in your car for when you forget to take one!

Good tip re leaving barcodes everywhere possible! Imagine the disappointment not having it with you! 😫

One guy at my local one must have been gutted on Saturday!

I don't know what I'm looking for! First timer?

Not sure I really understand the results sheet. It says that one of them is a first timer but done a total of 3 runs?

UnfitNoMore profile image

Ok... what I was looking at was the first guy over the line... unknown means no barcode.

First timer in the PB column means it was his first time at that parkrun... he’s run 3 parkruns in total. The PBs on that page are for Glossop, and may be slower than someone’s absolute PB, which can be found by clicking on their name and then the “see all parkruns by this runner” link. I only tend to look at my friends stats, none of whom run Glossop parkrun... I’ve never been there either 😂

Actually I've just scrolled down and seen the explanation of the column headings - but I'm still not sure I know what I'm looking for!

Look at the top... the first named runner came second... there’s “unknown” ahead of him. Also the VM65-69 going sub 22 is very fast

Note the bottom though... some people took an hour, so don’t worry about pace!

Nooooooo!

I saw it and could have cried for him... and I probably never met the guy 😂

Right... time for me to get my butt moving!

Enjoy your run UNM 👍

It happened to us once. My husband ran home after he’d passed the finish line and picked up his token . He got back just in time so that we could both get scanned. He deserved his full English breakfast after that! 🏃‍♂️👏. He now has one of the small barcodes attached to one of his running shoes.

Oh no! I can only imagine the disappointment! Poor husband! I double and triple check every time I go! I’m going to get one of the wristbands too I think. 😀

Good idea!

Register online and print out your barcodes (there are spares - you only need one on the day). Note you need the physical barcode and not on your phone. Then simply turn up and run! 😀 Hand the barcode in for scanning with your finish token (which you’ll be handed) and you’ll get your official time emailed through later in the day.

It’s such good fun and you won’t regret it.

Let us know how you get on won’t you? 😀

Thanks. Won't be for a couple of weeks but yes, I will do.

Oh Lordy, poor guy! I’d like to hear that story!

Thanks for the explanation- I was wondering what the ‘unknown’ meant - thought perhaps they were going so fast no one recognised them 🤣

I did also look at the times and thought they were very fast.

Thanks Oldfloss. I have now registered! Will need to sort out a date for when I get back from my holiday for my first one. Then if park runs are anything like running I won’t have a free Saturday forever 😂

Have you registered your club as NHS C25K?

59er profile image
59erGraduate in reply toIannodaTruffe

I remember reading that I should do this but there was no NHS C25K on the list of choices and no opportunity to type it in - sorry!

NHS C25K is in the list of clubs..........or was last time I looked......

I think I might’ve looked under C25K NHS. I’ll go on again and check it out. I’ll let you know!
