I was a gym addict, six days a week, two hours a day
I 2011, had a big med problem and surgery, procedures and medications caused med to gain 65 pounds!!!!!! (Tears, seriously). Never been overweight, I avoided friends and some family on my visits back to California from where I live in Scotland.
Was too lethargic and in pain to exercise so docs put me on the "bench".
On a tip, perhaps inspiration from a former trainer, I began couch to 5k in June 2017. Fell and tore MCL and my last run was July 7th of 2017.
Regained permission to run at the end of January but the Beast from the east among other things kept me on the sidelines.
Today, completed run 2 of week 4. Should've been my day off running but don't care, here's why:
I agree, take a day off. Never take more than two days off as I've been advised.
I ran because upon weighing myself this morning I'd lost 7 lbs in about a week, a bit less. Not starving myself or avoiding carbs as usual. Just going with the flow.
After the podcast for today's run ended I had about 3/4 mile to walk to my car, I chose to run/walk it....after all, week five Isco I got soon!! Eeeek!
This wasn't a program run back to my car just me seeing what I could do on my own using my Fitbit to monitor times. I managed six minutes comfortably running at a slow pace. I then walked tw minutes and finished with 9 minutes left, running all the way. Yes, a slow run, but a run nonetheless.
I'm crazy, an overachiever and so on but...but...everything I've read says don't expect to lose weight for a few months, less if you're lucky. Last year, before I tore my MCL I'd dropped 6 pounds in four days. I also hit my first runner's high, I was hooked but tore my MCL so benched until recently.
This week? From Tuesday to today (Thursday) I've dropped 7 pounds!! I am being careful. Runners I know run every day, I know this is training but I'm grateful to have a gp as a husband who will, and has, hide my shoes to ensure I take days off.
Do t do as I do, do it for you!! Which reminds me of a silly poem I thought of while running today.
....My Runner's Oath...
I won't run in pain
I won't run with a strain
I will run for me
Weight loss is key
I endeavour to be a healthy girl
I won't give up in easily overcome peril
I am determined to succeed
This is the real and grateful me
Good luck everyone!!
