Week 1 Run 1 = ouch

Started c25k this morning for the first time. I couldn't run the whole minute and feel like a failure, is this normal? Also massive chest issues after the whole session (I do use an inhaler)

Could do with some support...

Hey, you got out there & that is the biggest achievement of all so huge well done for that! The ‘f’word is not allowed - you are absolutely not. If I had to guess, I would say you may have set off too fast (really!) and if you go really slow next time (slower than you think you should go) I’m sure you’ll be fine. Think of it as tortoise & the hare - you may feel like the tortoise but you’ll be much more likely to maintain the time. If you are worried about your chest, maybe check it out with your doctor but I’m sure this will help in the long term. Please keep at it (after a rest day tomorrow) & let us know how you get on? You can do this, I promise 🏃🏽‍♀️💪☺️

Slow and steady Kris. That’s the mantra. It is not a race it is a stamina builder. Keep at it. 👍🏻

First run was definitely the worst for me because of not knowing whether my body can actually do it. Stick with it, with time and practice you’ll get there

Everyone has been here and felt like this! Just keep thinking "Slow and Steady". It's not a race. It's you committing to change your life. Good for you. The sessions aren't meant to be easy, but think "tortoise" and not "hare" and you'll be just fine! Believe in yourself and trust the programme.

I felt just the same after my first run and I also had to use my inhaler a lot.

I followed the advice to really slow it down and found that helped a lot.

Last night I completed Week 4, Run 3 and feel so much better and stronger in myself and my asthma has improved massively.

I was quite sceptical at first but everyone said stick with the programme, which I have, and it’s worked so far (let’s see if I mange to complete the 20 minute run next week though!)

Good luck with Week 1, Run 2, you can do it!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Slow down to a pace where you can hold a conversation, as explained in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Enjoy your journey.
