Week 6 Run 1…Ouch! 🥺

Hello, it’s been a while but lovely to be back. 🏃‍♀️ I did C25K 5 years ago and loved it, so wanted to do it again (now I’m 40 ☺️). I did the Wk 6 Run 1 today and it was a killer and I nearly had to stop. I forgot about this run. Maybe I was over confident from last weeks 20 mins run. On paper I would have thought it would be easier than running 20 mins straight? Any thoughts? Thank you 🙏 🥵

I just finished w6 run 3 my second time around. I have to agree, w6 r1 is so hard after the 20 minutes solid. I did run 2 twice because run 1 really threw me off. Todays run 3 felt great!

That’s encouraging to hear, thanks and well done on the Wk 6 run 3!! I did Wk 6 run 2 today and felt much better, I took it at a slower pace which helped.

This week still has the potential to throw some of our runners... after Week 5... We see many posts about it..

We do, usually, when we comment on a post saying that Week 5, has been done, give a little warning, re week 6 runs 1 and 2.

Folk do expect after Week 5, that the next runs should feel really easy after those 20 minutes continuous running .

Week 6 teaches you something new, , as does all of the C25K plan, and this week teaches you how to pace yourself...each week of the programme is carefully structured to move you on in so many ways,

Often folk do start week 6 a tad too fast, a bit of over confidence if you wish... and the only answer to this is, slow and steady... keep it gentle and the rest follows:)

This run is on my mind iafter just completing w5r3. I’ve done the program before and honestly can’t remember if I found w6r1 tough but I do remember reading about people that did. I think some of it was the stopping and starting running. But I also think maybe you’ve answered your own question. It’s the psychological aspect of getting over the hurdle of 20 minutes running making it feel like going back to runs with walk breaks as ‘easy’. But really it’s not very long since these seemed difficult. I think it’s just a case of trusting the plan and taking each run as it comes.

thanks very much, yes your absolutely right, I was defo not expecting it to be such a challenge and also think I went too fast. Just did wk 6 run 2 and that was much better as I slowed down the pace and made a huge difference. Best of luck with your week 6!
