Have managed to get to this stage but I'm really anxious about running for 20 mins....I realise that it's a mental block but I'm just not sure that I can do it. I jogged r2 8 mins and felt ok apart from a slightly tight hamstring.....why am I so anxious about it?

You'll be fine. Don't over think it.
You will surprise yourself, trust me...slow and steady, breeeeaaaaath, relax and PERSIST! Do not allow yourself to stop, but allow yourself to slow right down. You’ll do it, and you will be over the moon. Weeks 1-4 have prepared you for this. x
Maybe this will help put it into perspective healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
That was so helpful.....thank you you are right. I have managed so far and surprised myself with what I can do.... xx
We all have self doubts, Tashaliza. You will have seen on this forum how often people graduate saying "I never thought I could do this". Well you can, actually, and you will! Just follow the programme and RUN SLOWLY.
Good luck, happy running.
I’m anxious about every “next big run”. It’s natural. Feel the fear and do it anyway! The programme has got you ready for this. You just need to go long and slow. Good luck!
I was exactly the same but found it was easier than run 2! You will smash it 😁
I managed w5r3 on Monday, although I felt I was just staggering through the last 5 mins! I wanted to feel amazed at my achievement afterwards, but didn’t feel very happy about it... as I managed to complete it at all I’m looking forward to w6r1 in the pouring rain today! Can’t be worse can it?! ☔️
It will be easier than you imagine. The next two runs will then seem like a dream...
It’s definitely a mental battle from here on in. I’m on wk 7 and I know physically I can run for 25mins (have already done it twice) but I’m lying in bed making excuses. Someone give me a kick please......
I was worried too, but took all the advice given on this forum and it was easier than expected.
This is the advice i have collected!:
Keep your pace slow - don’t start off too fast or you’ll run out of energy.
Don’t think about your breathing - it seemed to fall into place for me.
Focus your thoughts a little way beyond the place where you think the finish is. I had a landmark i was aiming for.
Look around and enjoy the view as you run.
Have a playlist of cheesy anthems to make you smile.
You’ll do it! Good luck!
I am amazed to have done it yesterday. I was struggling with 60 secs week one and hadn't run for many years (50) but i managed it without gasping. Just take it slow and you will smash it.
Many have felt just like this, before you and survived.. take it steady and slow and you will be fine.. relax and know you can do it...because...you can and you will
