Kept putting off going out in the rain - seemed a good excuse - but much easier .. Have been running on playing field - is it better to run on road /path ?

I’ve just finished week 1 too! I’ve been running around a rugby field track around the edge!

Well done you!

Check out this link and take it gently. Running on grass or off road can be more forgiving on the legs, but pavement or road pounding is fine ( if it is safe).

I love off road... every run is so, so different:)

It is great fun... I even got lost once around the back area of the village I have lived in for 30 odd years...:)

The key thing is to do it and not put unnecessary barriers in your way (so if what you are doing is convenient and feels OK, do it!)

That said, I am a firm believer in the merits of opting for gentle surfaces if you can... I almost never run any distance on a road/pavement/tarmac and I try not to do several runs in a row on trails. I really feel the difference/increased recovery time) if I do (and interestingly, though I generally feel no need to stretch after the end walk, I do feel it then sometimes)

At this stage all you are about is building up the ability (physically and psychologically) to run for 30 minutes on a regular basis... personally I'd find running round and round a playing field dreary but I tend to run somewhere different every time and run different routes even in familiar places.

Well done. It feels like baby steps but it is tough. Keep going you’ll surprise yourself. I run on the path along the beach
