Yep, I have lived in this area for thirty three years.... and yet, managed to take a wrong turn!.
I had run for 5.33 K, a slightly different route and in a different direction; Towards the very end of the run, I realised I was in a lane that went nowhere...except to a very dilapidated old farmhouse, After a quick stop, and a slight, "...where the heck am I " moment, I found a footpath/track, and had to run for another 2.5 K... before I eventually found a footpath off that track, leading back to the road for home...(walking).
I know I am a bear of little brain... I know this was a different route...but goodness!!! I eventually told my husband what happened, ( I could not keep up the pretence that it was intentional), as he wondered why I had been out longer than I said I would be!!! I neglected to say, that if I had retraced my run.. I would have been even longer. The hoots of laughter greeting my first confession were sufficient!
Not all who wander are lost....???? I was
PS
I was quite pleased I ran for as long as I did... even with a quick breather/panic.

"Not all those who wander are lost" - were you seeking for the sword that was broken? In a dilapidated farmhouse? Sounds like a quest! You'll soon know the area inside out, every little path will have been explored. Great post!
Anyway you were never really lost. You always knew the way back home - that's what I tell myself when I head off down an unknown path. I love doing that and I love it when they come out somewhere and I think "I know exactly where I am now". I tend to do my exploring on a bike though, it's not quite so exhausting going back if I do head 5 km down the wrong road!
You had a short pause but you ran for almost *8*km... I say it counts as a full non-stop 7km. If you do not believe me, I am sure you will have the proof during your next long run.
P.S. The things that "only you" are the reason why I love *you*.
I think when trail running, pauses are more than allowed, it is part of the adventure. How else could you enjoy and savour the view, consider which way to go next, open that awkward gate, stroke the dog with a waggy tail? I would think people who do long trail runs must stop for a bite to eat, a drink and a toilet break too, so it all comes with the territory, well done!!
"I''m not lost...I'm just passing through on the way to wherever I am going"!😀🏃🏻
Well, Oldfloss, you may have travelled far and crossed new boundaries, but hey! You also had a really long run too and I didn't miss that snippet hidden at the end of your post😉 Well done on that! 👍 Perhaps next time a trail of breadcrumbs? A piece of string...a map and compass, the stars and the moon? I dunno?!
Maybe....you think you know the area where you live and whammy! I did have a long run... I am getting to quite like them...the distances often happen by chance.... it is a lot of fun!
No run today... Because I usually do a longer run on a Tuesday,( even unintentionally) , I have Wed and Thurs as non run days. I cycle and exercise on those days. Run tomorrow.. then it all starts again!
Cannot wait until next week... off in the tin-tent to Carsington Water... I am gonna run across the Dam! Yeay!!!!
No I ran yesterday. I should be at the gym but it's going to be such a lovely day I've decided to work in the garden as I have so much to do, clearing sheds, planting and oh, I'm painting a garden thingy too! Thought I'd get up early to get a move on but seem to be stuck on here and drinking lots of tea! Have a fab day 🌞
Ooh that's a nice, long run. Well done floss! I have no orientation skills at all. I'm amazingly useless at it. Thank goodness for sat nav and smartphones is all I can say.
Well yes... I am normally pretty good... and I did get home... I just am not sure how I have never been that way.. I assume, driving etc, I have never noticed the turn off... not sure... Things flummox me sometimes! But I did have a good run! Friday is the next time out ! I need a rest!
It was very odd... one minute.. I was on lane I knew.. took a turn I thought led to the other lane and no...it wasn't... totally odd... I just wonder how I manage these things!!! The farmhouse was a bit scary...question is.... would i dare venture down there again?
Well... I intend having another look at the lane.track at some point, and maybe taking a slow walk around to check out other routes...BEFORE I run them!
Well.. it was a long run..but because I took a quick break I think it was almost, two runs. I am a bit like secan , he was focussed initially, on 5K... he is running 10K now... (brilliant boy), and I have focussed on doing 7K.. and although I have been really close. I need to do it..in one run, even if it is slow run!
I will get there...and yes. it was a bit spooky, I have found some really unusual and odd places, in the area in which I have lived for a long time. Running is about so much more than the run
Funny post and reminded me of a run I did on a "Footpath"! The sign pointed into the field from the road so I went through the gate and followed the direction of the vaguely pointing arrow. Had a running adventure up and down hills. Past curious sheep, through a wood and along a track and ended up at a padlocked gate covered in barbed wire. Obviously I had taken a wrong turn but I would definitely do it again as the woods were brilliant, I saw 6 Red Kites soaring above me and found my way home without being shot by a farmer! All good!
You know what? I should download the famous "Zombies, run!" app, in case I ever get lost in an isolated area with a dilapidated farm; that should be fun... and it might help establishing a new PB! 😆
I listen to audio books whilst running & inevitably find myself in the midst of a grizzly murder scene whilst running through woods or isolated areas! Last time it was a story about a psychopath loose in the highland hills whilst I was half way up a hill ok not in the wilds of the highlands but I didn't half jump when someone passed me! Lol 😆😆😆
I think I may need to review my listening choices. 😅😅
