When we last met NOOB, she had just done an Accidental 5K (copyright Theziggy ). Having blown her "I don't need a new goal, I'll have ages to get to 5K", obviously she tried even harder to slow the heck down (she's not very normal in her mindset) and carried on consolidating. Realising she needed a different plan to keep her slothlike, she decided let's try this 10K insanity.
So now we're up-to-date(ish), I'm going to dump that weird third person stuff! Brace yourself folks, this is another popcorn length rambling! (Yeah Elfe5 you're gonna need a flask of coffee this time, Jen58 I'm gonna say if yours is a bottle of Desperado, you're going to have to REALLY nurse it... )
Decided in the end to use Samantha Murphy's (aka Sami Murphy) Bridge to 10K podcast. I wanted something with the same kind of structure of C25K. I need a voice telling me to stop, walk, now run. I like running to time rather than distance (find it more relaxed, because pace is going to be whatever it is going to be). I also prefer to run to music that I don't listen to in my leisure time (see above for not normalness). So podcast/mp3 with music already there works best for me.
Wait, what about Spotify or [insert a million streaming options like Rock My Run]? Yeah. Well one of the downsides of living in rural loveliness is the lack of reliable mobile signal. Can't even do a 5K with a guaranteed signal, lost Spotify a few times on my consolidation runs. Had to resort to downloading a load of their playlists when I was on a Premimum trial, but said trial long over. I'm too cheap to pay a subscription. LOL. (I'd tag Seaspice here, but he seems to have left the building.)
I know, you're wondering where the point is, I'm getting to it. Honest So today, Saturday 21st April, I was left with a bit of a dilemma. Sami Murphy's podcast goes to Week 5, but the programme is supposed to have a Week 6 with your first non-stop 1 hour run. (Week 5 is 30 minutes, walk 1 minute, run 30 minutes). I'd searched when I first downloaded them for a Week 6 and come up empty. Just use an hour of music I'd half-arsedly told myself all those weeks ago. Except now, no, NOOB needs someone saying 5 minutes warm up are up, run and she REALLY needs someone to tell her to stop! Vague guidance on you're halfway through, also gratefully received.
I was a little flumoxed, because what Sami actually said on W5R3 did not sound like a signoff. There were no congratulations or anything. In fact it starts with "You're nearly there", which well I'd have said "This is your last run", no "nearly". So I started wondering (praying) if there actually WAS a Week 6 out there. Tapped Sami's Number One Fan ( misswobble ) and nooooooooooooooooo, there isn't.
Fudge. Slight panic. Even if I can somehow stick exactly an hour's worth of music together that I don't love but also don't hate - I'm utterly clueless on what BPM I run at, to try and select them!
I revist the Bluefin podcast I'd downloaded along with Sami. Yep, it again takes another 30 second listen to know I'd lose my mind to that. Sorry if that music is your thing, I just, no. I genuinely prefer Laura's podcast music to it! (That feels a bit AA meeting "I'm NOOB and I can bear the C25K music" ) .
Run in the buff (translation "without music/earphones" for those who've not been on here long enough to come across that before) you chorus. Yeah, no. I am someone who VERY much needs distraction. I also need to NOT hear either my breathing or my footfalls. I just overanalyse them if I do and correct stuff that didn't need correcting.
My saviour comes in the form of Suz whose podcasts I'd also downloaded previously (I like a Plan C, ok and D and E and basically pretty much to Z ). She'd wanted podcasts with more of the music she liked rather than electronica, so it had seemed like a good plan. Now I was stuck trying to work out if there was going to be too much Hip Hop for me. Potentially too much Hip Hop vs. replaying W5R3 of Sami and not having the right timings. Yep, I voted for the Hip Hop risk.
Hilariously Suz goes under the moniker of kissmyblackass.org. Turns out to be very apt (let's just change the race and get more British to apply it to myself). Oh yeah, it would appear my legs are fans of the hip hop. Astoundingly DJ Kool's Let Me Clear My Throat (Honestly, I didn't even know that's what that track was called, I thought it was called "Jump"!!) has me taking off like a Bat out of Hell (oops, mixing my genres there! ). My white arse just ran for a WHOLE HOUR with NO WALKING.
There are not the words. I've gone from 60 seconds thinking I'm going to die to 60 MINUTES. While it all sinks in, I'll just apply smug face.
Oh and there's a part two here, with EXTRA smug!!! healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
