Fellow Canadians - anyone else about to cry at the forecast??

Seriously though.... MORE SNOW!? I honestly could cry if I think too hard about it... I am SO done with winter. We are a full 10 degrees below seasonal and haven't even seen a positive double digit temperature day yet here in Sudbury. So much for April showers bringing on May flowers... what do April flurries bring, aside from a lot of cranky Canucks? Guess I'll plan rest days for Sunday and Monday! The silver lining here is that I really don't feel like running today but this pushes me to run today so I have a rest day before going out again on Saturday.

Ugh, I feel your pain. We're FINALLY above zero this week and are actually forecast for low teens this weekend 😳. Although in all honesty, I'll believe it when I feel it (and get to run in it 🤞). Yesterday was overcast and spitting out. It was so wonderful. I felt like I was back on the coast (and with all the water in the ditches, it almost felt like I wasn't land locked 😆). At this point, I'll be sooooo happy for showers instead of flurries. But ..... winter may not be over yet. We've been known to have snow May long weekend in the past.

So nice that spring is in the air in Saskatchewan!! Sounds like you've lived on the west coast! Are you currently training for an event or distance goal?

Oh gosh - yes, those freak storms can happen! I lived in Thompson Manitoba for several years and saw snow in every month except July and August during my time there. Camped in it even... in a tent. Seems crazy now as we have a trailer and make good use of the heater!

I grew up on the west coast, then moved to Saskatchewan to attend University where I met my hubby. He's a teacher and the teaching environment in BC at that time was less than desirable so we've lived on the prairies ever since. I miss the coast and the mountains but have managed to find the beauty in Southern Saskatchewan. We live near Lake Diefenbaker so spend the summer on the water and have a great trail race that I'm training for. I'm doing the 10k this year, but am hoping to run the 50k before my 50th (I've got a few years, thankfully). I was working toward a half marathon this winter, but life and the weather got the best of me, so I had to let that go for now and that's ok. I'm super busy right now so am just trying to get whatever runs in I can for my sanity 😜. We've camped many a time in flurries in May. When we brought our houseboat down the lake the first year we had it in May, moving it from the end we bought it from to our end, it was snowing. The water was open though so off we went 😆. It was quite the adventure!

A 50k before 50 - what an amazing goal!! Wow! A 10k trail race sounds really nice, being in nature... so lovely. I have a great trail just down the road from my workplace and walk there once a week or so and plan to do some c25k sessions there once the snow melts... until then trudging through is a good work out and seems to use different muscles than running. I am keeping my eyes open for trail races in my area now!

Ahh well nice that you have some fun on the water despite being land-locked!

The 50k may be a little ambitious but I have a few years, so it's doable. A friend that I ran the 5k with last year signed up for the 50 this year (yikes) so we'll see how it goes for her. She's planning on hiking more than running, I believe. I really enjoy my nature runs and can't wait to get back to them. We have ticks though (not the species that carry Lyme, for the most part) so I'll wait a while to go truly off road until later summer when they have died down). There are nice pathways through the campground and hiking trails I tend to run on all summer. Definitely try the trail near your work place. It brings a whole new joy to running, I find.

My husband would like to be too! Unfortunately ski hills in our area are all closed for the season!

How difficult for you. We are up in the hills of Northumberland England and we have got the most unusually wet cold miserable weather! The mud is literally everywhere on the farm and the sheep have found lambing difficult. But at least you can run in the rain. I would have no confidence running in snow and ice. I hope your spring arrives very soon

You must have some fun in the science lab though, when I was at school in the late 60s I can just remember pottasium permanganate (love that name!) being an interesting substance to play with, or does today's H&S put a limit on chemistry lessons? don't remember safety glasses being used then either..😊

No we can still have fun with chemicals and a lot of potassium permanganate flowing around. I’ve got some sheep hearts from the butcher for students to disect next week, most still enjoy that. There will be one or two who won’t want to be in the lesson but that’s fair enough
