Hi guys! I used to really enjoy running in my younger years ( I'm knocking on towards 50 eeeek) so decided to drop the gym and try to improve the running stamina. All went well till the end of week 3 gave me a very sore achilles. I stopped the running for a week the went back to week 1. So far the softly softly approach has worked but my knees are doing the complaining this time around. I'll still be completing week 3 on Saturday but wondered if I ought to have a 2 day interval between runs....what does everyone think?

Achilles and sometimes knee problems - check your trainers - new ones sometimes eliminate those injuries.

Cheers Duddles - will do!

Welcome.
The commonest advice on this forum is slow down. This gives you body an opportunity to adapt without risking injury.

Take it easy.

Are you only running in the gym, or outside too? I've heard just treadmill is very different to pavements, perhaps worth looking at your stride etc?
Hi JoJo! No its purely treading the tarmac for me! Quite a few years back I was doing 10k 3 times a week in the gym until the old joints started complaining, but even then I found road running a struggle. I good to have a challenge though!
It does sound like speed is the key then, if you think 2 day rests would help I'm sure it wouldn't hurt 👍
I take a glucosamine supplement for joint pains... not quite sure if it's just a placebo but when I get lazy and stop I do get more pain, might be worth a shot. I just get the cheapies from Tesco with vit c as well.
