Lent Challenge anyone?

All around the nation there was the sound of gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair and rending of raiments as the faithful wept and ululated and cried out "What are we to do now the Skwaat Chellenge hath ended? How can life treat us so cruelly?"

And yet today is the first day of Lent, so it is only appropriate really that we give up soething precious (note this does not mean goving up the skwaats: contnue applying those to the affected part as directed ad eternam).

The thorny question of Lent has been a hotly debated one in the Rignold household this morning however. every year for the past several years my children have given up (not altogether with good grace) all electronic games and TV etc and I have given up alcohol and social media.

This year the usual plan is a little more problematic: I use several social media platforms as part of my business, to say nothing of the blog, and don't drink alcohol anymore anyway, and my daughter has reached the age where her mobile phone has become so intrinsically a part of her that she would actually DIE if she had to have it surgically removed for more than six hours, let alone six weeks.

Whilst the self discipline of Lent is a good thing, death and bankruptcy is probably taking things a step too far.

So this year we have considered doing Lent the other way: rather than giving things up, we will do good things every day. My daughter has been charged with cleaning the bathroom sink and toothbrush mug, and the boys have mopped and dried the living room floor.

And then the thought hit me: why not kill two birds with one stone and do a Lenten challenge to fulfill the doing a good deed every day requirement and also provide a straw for the challenge deprived skwaaters to clutch at in their hour of need...

So here's the idea: every day between now and March 29th there will be a virtuous workout of the day (VirtueWOD). Mortify your flesh and fortify your muscles at the same time... what's not to like?

Anyone interested please leave a comment. If we get 40 people signed up, i will go ahead. If not I will just become purified of heart and mind and shreeded of abdominals on my own...

Great plan. We always ‘take something up for Lent’. So count me in.

I’m game for this - if I’ve understood it correctly.

Sounds good - count me in. Assuming of course that you go easy on the self-flagellation and hair shirts.

Excellent plan Rignold. Count me in please.😀😀
