Helllo - my challenge

Hi all. My challenge is to do 5k by mid October. I have very severe COPD and am on oxygen - my portable oxygen backpack weighs over 5lb which is a bit of a nuisance, but I manage. It is unlikely that I would ever be able to run 5K, so I am aiming to build up to being able to walk that distance at all. If I can eventually manage to speed walk 5K in under an hour I will be a very happy lady :) I already do an awfully slow mile a day, so as of tomorrow I will start timing myself. Last year I worked up to doing a Leslie Sansone 15 minute mile video walk twice daily as part of my training, but have since let things go and deteriorated. My lung disease is very much a use it or lose it one, so this will be the best medicine it is possible for me to have as well as a mental and emotional boost! Talk to you again tomorrow, Parvati :)

Very best of wishes for success, Parvati...please do update us as you progress. Each of us picks our own pace....success is in the "doing".

Well done Parvati, I salute your determination and courage. Being asthmatic I wondered how I would cope with running but its strange that my breathing is better and my lung capacity also improved. I swim too so that has perhaps added to the improvement.

I wish you all the very best with your challenge and please keep us updated on your progress.

Amazing - makes my minor disccomforts pale into insignificance. I would be interested to hear about your progress and what your Dr/nurse thinks. Presumably you get assessed regularly and so will be able to assess improvement eg in lung capacity - Well done and keep it up.
