Wow, well done, that's a real achievement! Just shows what perseverance can do. Mind you, I graduated in July and I still haven't managed it yet! Something tells me it's highly unlikely I ever will!
Naaahahhaaa! You see? That's EXACTLY what I said! 5k 3 times a week enough for me ... then it went to 10k then suddenly it was further ... at the end of the day strive for what you 'want' to do, not what you think you 'should' do ... being out there is all that counts and my goal was always just being out 2 to 3 times a week every week
Well considering I couldnโt run without stopping after a few yards in October anything is possible! But you are right whatever is best for yourself works well
Thatโs fantastic. Itโs what Iโm aiming for but with all the bad weather and illness Iโm actually getting slower but still running so not downhearted. Youโll love the parkrun, itโs so inclusive. People of all ages and abilities, some fast, some combining running and walking.
Enjoy your Park Run - it is a really positive experience. Hint - I tend to start towards the back (5k in 32 mins is about 2/3 down the field) then you get the mentalboost of overtaking a few people. ๐
Thank you for the advice that will be really helpful I donโt want to get in peoples way ๐ I believe the one Iโm planning to do gets around 400 people taking part
Well done but for anyone else reading this donโt feel you have to be able to do 5K in 30 minutes to do a Parkrun. Iโve done done six now, gradually eating into my pb but nowhere near 30 minutes!
Indeed my experience is that the majority of the runners are there just to run rather than do times and it's a great way to start a week.
Last Saturday after the Park run I noticed a family in the local Cafe Nero. three of the five of them had been on the Park run and had clearly then met up after it and were sitting down together, talking and chatting animatedly and not a phone, playstation or bored look in sight.
That's a great achievement doing 17 5k's in around 31 minutes and 'hitting the jackpot' on the 18th by doing it in under the magic half hour, I hope you can run the park 5k in around 29 minutes as well, good luck for that.
Ha, you should enjoy it 'Dory' just take it easy and try and schedule it to be 29 minutes and 59 seconds, that is a second under 30 minutes, you will enjoy it.
Don't do what I did on Sunday, as I have told others on this post I did start the C25K first week last November but the cold icy weather started so I decided to postpone starting it until the Spring, however, I was out a lovely good brisk walk on Sunday morning and saw about 14 runners and joggers and decided to have a little run as well. I decided there and then to run for 2 minutes and walk for 1 minute and see how long I would last. Remember I was not in any running gear whatsoever, I had a thick long sleeved jerkin on and walking boots but seeing all those runners just made me in the mood to want to have a run as well. The first two minutes was all uphill, I normally take 4 minutes to walk up that hill but running up it I was at the top with still about 15 seconds to go until the first two minutes were up.
Sweating and exhausted I had decided to have a 3-minute' walking rest', but in these 3 minutes, another jogger appeared who I noticed was 'dressed for the part' but actually was running slower than I had been, so I decided to follow him at about 30 metres behind for my next two minute run, then it happened my right heel seemed to go very sore and as it was in the last 10 seconds of that two minute run I continued but after that I hobbled home just walking slowly. The pain has now gone but it taught me a lesson not to run in non running clothes. It was just seeing all those other runners that made me in the mood for that short run.
Itโs just the urge to run ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ probably not one of your best ideas but hey you gave it a go ๐ I will take it steady and see what happens
Wow, it took me 43 minutes to reach my first 5k, so am in awe of you. Well done!
I hope you do sometimes I donโt look forward to it but once Iโm out itโs on . Just try reading some of the great posts on here for inspiration! Good luck
