Not run in ages have signed up for a 10k - am I mad??

So as I say, I graduated Oct 16 but for most of 2017 my running was spasmodic. I’d been thinking how much I want to get in a routine again as i’m trying to loose a bit of weight and I did love the way it made me feel mentally . Added to that I will be getting married later in the year. I saw a 10k advertised in my area and in a completely and unlike me, impulsive moment I signed up for it!! I thought it would give me a challenge and motivate me to get back out there. In the cold light of day i’m now thinking what have I done?! Am I being unrealistic in my expectations and with planning is it feasible?

Well done

There are 5-10k programmes out there , it's good to have a goal .... I have a 10k in May, I'm struggling to maintain 30min runs at the minute after a training lapse , but the 5-10k app I've downloaded looks great so I feel positive ....

Good luck, youve totally got this!! X

Check out the pinned posts. ju-ju- has devised a 10 in the Magic Number plan that provides a stuctured pla to get from 5k to 10k. Quite a few people following it. There will be a group following it from the 16th Feb.

How long have you got to get back up to speed?

I see I never mentioned when the 10k is- it’s August.

It all depends how much time you have to prepare.

You could sign up for a marathon, but if it is next week you 'aint going to run it.

Find a training plan. Asics do flexible plans to fit time frames. Most importantly, get back to regular running. You only build a running body by running frequently, not by saying you run sometimes.

I omitted to mention, I see, the 10k is August. Yes you are definitely right about the regular running and it has started from today.

August is loads of time. You’ll be absolutely fine! I’d get up to running 3 x 5k as a matter of routine and the pick up Jujus programme. The spring is just around the corner (although it doesn’t feel it as I sit here by the fire!)and a great time of year to commit to a training programme. Keep dropping by here and in Bridge210k to commit and for for encouragement, I am sure it makes a difference to motivation. 🤗🏃🏾‍♀️🔥
