So I’ve just been to the gym to use a treadmill for the first time. I’m on week 8. Interestingly I found it harder 😳 my heart rate was higher and my shins hurt when they don’t normally.
I’m sure I got the pace right but thought it might be that? It was also quite warm in there so I was sweating more ... could it be that? I’m so used to running in the freezing cold 😂
Ideas or is it just me 😕

Exactly my experience of it. Heart rate higher, shins hurt, yet I was going slower.
How interesting- just read it can be you use your quads more and hamstrings less which can affect running gait and make it feel harder ... love the fact that you learn so much as part of this journey 😂
That’s interesting. Mine is a little fold up one I got for Christmas for weathr emergencies. I would really rather run outside. The only other experience I have of them is getting my gait tested, and that treadmill is bigger and easier to run on than mine, but the impact on the legs is the same.
Honestly not sure - I’ve done a lot of my runs in the gym and on the treadmill and seem to be in the minority that actually quite like it! 🙈
I haven’t done any of my 20+ minutes non-stop plus runs outside yet though - planning to complete one of the week 8 runs outdoors and I’ll let you know how it compares!
I find that out on the street you can get involved in the run and forget about time, treadmill you have no choice but to stare at your time and distance. That's what i found i hated when i briefly used a treadmill! I found that my gait was different too as i felt restricted by the set speed and felt like i was gonna crash into the front!
