C25k and slimming world

Hi Everyone

This is my first post - I started C25k two weeks ago and I am doing the week 3, 1st run tonight’s. I am a bit nervous but will be doing it with a local running group so will have some support.

As well as starting this programme I have been following slimming world, previously I would of lost several pound in the first two weeks but it’s a lot slower this time is this normal?

Given SW has no calorie tracking it is quite possible that you are eating more to 'compensate' for your running and it is going unnoticed.

Thanks for the tip I think I’ll continue on the plan this week but track the calories and see if that makes a difference.

Welcome and well done.

Read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it may give you some pointers.

Enjoy your journey.

Weight loss is never linear. You shouldn't worry if it's not immediate. SW is a great diet specifically because it encourages healthy common sense eating without calorie counting. You can't calorie count for the rest of your life(Yes I know some people do but it's rare) so why start. I have lost 3.5st approx on SW since last july, I started running after about 2.5st loss in October and initially the weight loss plateaued. So the change in activity level can confuse things a bit, but if you keep eating to plan and have 1/3 to half a plate of speed food in every meal it will drop off though but don't lose heart so quickly, you want to change for life yes? well give it time :)

Thanks this is really encouraging. I love the plan as I don’t like counting calories if I can help it.

I will stick at it and see where it takes me, I completed the W3 R1 today so I’m feeling loads better health wise and happier too!

Thanks for replying.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Focus on those health gains and how you feel, congratulate yourself often as you slim down and tone up. It all builds together like a pyramid. But never give up because you have a crappy week, you put on weight or you can't get out to run etc. In the long run(pardon the pun) you will smash it. And the people here are the best sort to help you with it.

The admins are really good at keeping the nutters out.. well mostly :P

Hi Emmsy, I combine SW & running- they go together really well. However in my first couple of weeks of running I lost fewer pounds than usual like you. I was told that an being new to exercise can temporarily increase fluid retention in your muscles (don't know if this is true or a myth!). By the third week all was fine. But as pinkaardvark says, this is about change for life, not just about what happens in these early weeks.

Keep us posted and we will cheer for you! 😃
