First a cough, then a rattle, then a moan

No, I'm not describing my running style - though not being quite over the lurgy, I did have to cough a few times or slow to a very fast walk, but I did keep moving for 30 minutes.

Today's run day came and despite some misgivings about the weather - it haled first, then rained, then was really windy, but then the sun came out and, having dropped Mr Psycho off at work, I made my way to my favourite running place - the local park.

I fired up the "Zombies, Run!" and was soon immersed in the post-apocalyptic world, picking up random supplies.

I did enjoy that fact that one of the items I randomly picked up was a sports bra, the description says it's 'functional more than pretty, but is a vital piece of equipment for Runners. It's been a long time since anyone's bra matched their knickers" - I actually smiled at that.

Considering how I found running with the C25K coaches over the last 12 months, disliking that my music and thus my rhythm was constantly being interrupted by Sara or Michael, (I distinctly remember wanting to pitch my phone into a bin if my music stopped just one more time) I found it really really weird to discover that I was actually waiting for 'Sam' to talk to me, even found myself thinking "for christ's sake, Sam, talk to me! Sam, you'd better tell me what's happening with the Zombs situation! Right. Now!" and before I knew it, the chapter was finished and 'Runner 5' had once again kept ahead of the zombies. As you can see from the picture, I led the Zombies in a very merry game of 'chase' ;) - still makes me laugh when I'm running from Zombies and 'Lust for Life' come on from my playlist.

I'm not saying Zombies, Run! is a better programme than C25K, no no, C25K has a special place in my heart as what got me into running. I just think that Zombies, Run! is a programme that's better suited to me, personally. It gives me something to focus on other than the road in front of me and keeps me from thinking about people who might be staring and laughing at the big girl running - I don't care about any of that because I'm evading zombies, I'm surviving the apocalypse, I'm enjoying the interactions with 'my new friends' and the thought of doing the next chapter is getting me eager to go for my next run. (Though I get the distinct impression that Runner 8 doesn't trust me, hmmm)

At the end of the day, isn't that the point? whatever gets me off the sofa and out for my run

Until next run, stay safe, stay unbitten
