Blew it on W6R3

Hi l, first post here.

Just had to have an unscheduled walking rest for the first time in the programme, at around 13 mins on W6R3.

Feeling a bit disappointed in myself. The next 3 or 4 are all 25 mins, the same as this one, so do you think I should repeat the last one till I manage it, or carry on with the next 25 min run, W7R1?

Also, any tips for picking myself up mentally?

Best wishes.

No worries at all, it happens. Just count today as a practice run, have your normal rest day and then go out and try again.

Make sure you go really slow, relaxed and gentle and then even slower! Snails win the day. 😀

Thank you elfe. I'll take that on board and check back in with the results!

It's up to you, put it down as practice. You just ran intervals for 25 mins- That's a good thing :)

There are good runs and not so good runs- always. It's almost 8 months since I started this journey- This morning was an 'average' run (ie not too hard, not too easy). Last Sunday was a fabulous run- really enjoyed it. My last run was sooo hard. I felt exhausted. Sometimes there's a cause (tired, not too well, not hydrated enough) and sometimes there is no rhyme or reason that I can find. Try and have a positive, 'can do' attitude.

So if you feel like walking next time, slow down even more (just so that it counts as a jog) until you feel recovered and then speed up to your usual pace. I am sure you will be fine.

Thank you helenwheels. I was feeling a bit below par beforehand for some unrelated reasons so that might have been it - as I already did a 20 min run a while back and enjoyed it. Will check back in with how I get on. Thanks again.

It's possible to run extremely slowly and expend hardly any energy. Remembering this has allowed me to not stop during a run even when I really wanted to. Sounds simple but it works for me anyway. I don't think its cheating or anything , I believe that eventually your body just gets used to being in motion . Mind over matter etc etc.

Thanks Dawn. I kind of got that right in the 20 min run but this time I was feeling worn out from 5 mins! Will keep that in mind next time. Ta.

Break the run into chunks in your head. Don't think about how long you are going to be running. Just run 5 mins and then another 5 until it is finished. Doesn't matter how fast you go just faster than a walk... focus on the sense of achievement you know will come. Good luck, keep going....

Hi all. I just picked myself up and repeated W6R3 and DID IT! Your advice really helped, so thank you.

To other C25k'rs: don't worry if you miss the goal first time (or the second!) because you WILL do it!
