W4R1 Happy Me!

I did it! Still the jogging snail but cannot believe I did 5 minutes, I set off with the full intention of having to keep repeating the run until I could make it. Was half crying half laughing when I finished. Thank you for all the encouragement, starting to think I may be able to do a 30 minute run for my 60th!

Yes we are - I don't dread the possibility of being overtaken by a dog walker any more! 😂

Well done! I too am a 59 year old jogging snail. There is a whole team of us 'mature' girls! I'm now week 6 and I will join you in the 60th birthday celebrations doing the 30 minute run (I hope) . Keep on going, snail's pace is good, it's faster than couch pace!

That's brilliant well done you. It's a truly amazing feeling 👏

I’m a 70 year old jogging snail and in the middle of week 3. Strangely the longer runs now seem more do-able than the first two weeks. I hope that isnt famous last words!

I'm 70 and never ran before but just did w4r2 without trouble. So far all n the treadmill as I still have to get knitted up for outside . I'm nervous of falling over, and needing a pee when outside! We do live near a great park so I'm psyching myself up for the great outdoors.

in reply toEssandem

That's encouraging for me, Essandem, coming up behind you and being similarly ancient, well done. I've done all mine outside. I wear proper running shoes, thermal leggings, thermal top, with a Primark workout top over, cheap running gloves and a beanie, and am always warm enough. Have just invested in a reflective running jacket from ebay because i run in the evenings. i don't know about the peeing as I never need to when running (but then i haven't gone far yet!) and so far I haven't fallen over, and nor, I suspect, will you.

i'm going to go to the running shop for kit in the next couple of days. As far as the running goes my legs are fine and I don't get puffed out but have been having sore hips at night - fine when up walking and running. Might be the mattress.

in reply toEssandem

It’s really worth getting your gait tested and getting proper running shoes before getting into the longer runs. I got the hips thing too briefly. It’s not your mattress, I dont think. Just unaccustomed action on joints.

Brilliant idea, treadmill. I too @ 66 am cautious & Autumn in Ireland with slippery leaves everywhere so evening is dodgy for running. Never thought of treadmill, duh!😆

Fantastic. The way I look at it for me - soon to be 57 - is that I am (hopefully if I’m spared) only just over halfway through my life. Gotta lotta living still to do and want to stay fit & healthy to enjoy it. And still be in my heels at 100 👠👠 not for running obvs 😂😂😂

Oh you can do this, I graduated and ran my 1st park run for charity 2 days before my 60th

It is an awesome feeling when you do it isn’t it ... I’m very slow too and when sanj said I could go slower, but just complete the second 5 minute run I did giggle a bit thinking if I went any slower I’d be going backwards 😝

Congratulations! Way to go. I finished my W4R2 today and I was wondering if I would do 5mins when I went on R1 too. I truly believe its slowly becoming more of a mental challenge than physical with increasing timings. Start off positively but with the mindset that every run is a prep for next run (as one of the seasoned bloggers in this forum put it in his post). That way, even if we end up repeating, it is still a progress in the right direction.

Believe it or not... you will be laughing with joy in 2 days when you do your R2. It truly gets easier with positive mindset

Love the jogging snail reference. Me too I wonder how slow jogging can be but it’s a great feeling and get the laughing bit although it’s hard it’s fab. I look forward to hearing you’ve done it for 60. I am overweight and 58 and hope to be leaving my snail trial behind with the decades!
