Waterproof running jacket?

Can anyone recommend a waterproof running jacket that's still light to wear? All I can find are showerproof ones but given that I live in Scotland, it needs to be waterproof πŸ˜‚

Respectfully disagree. Waterproof will make you die of sweat. I would recommend a lightweight wool top (will keep warm even if wet, quite breathable) and a showerproof jacket...

Fab thanks very much. Is there a particular brand that you'd recommend? Or just any one?

I just bought a super lightweight one from the local sports store. It seems like it would have no effect but it's great!

It's almost like -- parachute nylon? Anyway it keeps the wind out, which keeps you warm, and is waterproof enough for drizzle or even a light shower. When I get too hot it is easy to tie round my waist like a bright puffy belt LOL.

Ditto. Most of my gear is Ron Hill, very pleased with all their running clothes.

Ah, Ron Hill are still around then. I covered many miles in a rowing boat and running in my faithful Tracksters when I was a youngster (late 80s/early 90s). I had to dump them a few years ago because the elastic had perished. Now I want a new pair just for the nostalgia!

I have just got a new one from decathlon but have to agree a showerproof one is the way to go. I went out in a waterproof one in my early days, it was one of the most uncomfortable runs I have ever been on. Winter weather is all about layers, and learning how to take stuff off while your still running, you will find you will get new skills you never thought of before. πŸ˜€

Or at this stage, you could just get wet... if you are out for 30-40 minutes and not anywhere exceptionally exposed (eg combining C25K with munro bagging), and you're going to be in the warm and dry clothes afterwards, no problem. In the last year or so I can truthfully say that every really disagreeable rubbish run I've had has been when I've added a layer. Possibly the very fact that I was fussing about being cold or wet says something about attitude being at the bottom of it, but still... I've certainly had some very wet and wonderful runs.

If you glow when you run you will get wet from the inside if you seal out the circulating air.

The other alternative is to not bother with a flappy cumbersome extra layer and embrace the refreshing rain for the short duration of a C25K workout.

Okay, it might be cool on your cool down..........

Like GoogleMe, carrying or wearing unnecessary kit is a real pain in my opinion.

All the experienced runners are recommending showerproof instead of waterproof and they may very well be right (they usually are), but living in Copenhagen I am also considering a waterproof jacket and I have been looking at a One Gore Shakedry running jacket which sounds convincing (I have other Gore items and they are great!) but this one is incredibly expensive: inspiration.goreapparel.com... around 300 euro or so... I'm going to have to find an extra job :-) :-)

I have a Karrimor one with two zip pockets, but the one I wear most is a Β£6.99 Aldi hooded one

You only need to look at waterproof stuff when you are running fells and such like. For C25k you're not out for long but a jacket will be a boon for cold starts which will soon be upon us
