Week 8 Run 2 - school run

So tonight's run was a little different in a number of ways. Firstly it was 2 hours earlier than normal and therefore 2 hours less to digest lunch. The last 5 minutes were a struggle and I think this was the reason. Secondly, as Flynny is off poorly from nursery my mum kindly offered to come and watch him so I could time my run with picking Erica up from After School Club. I meant I had to tweak my run yet again but to be honest this has to be a good thing. I was 2 mins short of the 5 minute cool down as I got to school but this takes me on to my third difference, I had a 38 min walk to do after picking a Erica up to get home. It's not that long usually but with a 5 year old in tow it lengthens the time somewhat. But walking slower actually makes my legs hurt more. The walk was lovely though to be honest as I had a nice chat to Erica.

The things that stood out today though was how cold it was. And windy. It took me back to a memory of years ago when I tried training with a colleague. It was dark, cold, wet and windy and I couldn't keep up. I gave up very quickly. It made me smile that if I could tell my 24 year old self that 10 years later I'd be running 28 mins, my 24 year old self would just laugh so loud and go off to drink beer. Instead I'll have a gin tonight in celebration as that memory was well and truly hidden until tonight, but I've completely smashed it away.

Well done - juggling all that and getting in a run too - good effort.

Well done mate, that wind made my first 15 minutes very hard.

Awful wasn't it? As if running up Hilton Lane isn't hard enough, I had to run into the wind too. And then Manchester road to walkden from there felt very open.
