Just done first run of week 3 and feeling quite chuffed with myself ( is that allowed?). I felt quite negative before I started as I didn't possibly think I could do it. Told myself to just give it a go and see what happened and I did it!!
Nice work. Don't let the negative thoughts beat you, the mind is probably harder to overcome than the legs. Be determined, try to enjoy it and smash week 3 run 2. Good luck.
There is absolutely no place for negativity on this forum. Why should there be? You have started a brilliant, well proven programme that WILL get you running for 30 minutes and you have the support of this equally amazing forum, full of people who have been there or are in the same place as you.
You can only fail at this if you go back to the couch. Even if you do not manage to complete a run, that just means you have found your current level, so you keep repeating that run until your body is strengthened enough to complete it, then you move on. Go as slow as you need to. It is about duration not speed. This will be challenging at times but slowly you will realise just how incredible your body actually is. You will be empowered and fit. You will be a runner.
The hardest part of this programme is - simply going out the front door with the intention of giving it a go
Once you start running, it takes care of itself.
Time/Distance/Speed - does not matter. I - and everyone else does also - have days where I literally have to stop myself from running further so that I don't end up on the 'injury couch', other days I can barely make my 'self enforced minimum' of two miles. And some days I don't even make my minimum.
But - just keeping on going out the door means that in the vast number of runs I get what I need. Exercise that makes me feel good about things and a sense of joy that I am not the slob on the sofa I used to be
Good runs are good - the rest are 'practice' runs for the next good run
Wishing you many happy miles in your future
Chuffed is not only permitted it is positively encouraged. And you will keep going won't you, because you already kicked that couch into touch. Well done and enjoy your running
