Week 1 run 1 done 😊

I've never really been into exercise but getting to that age where lack of it is starting to show already been doing yoga a few times a week since April but thought needed something else too! I'm quite self conscious and not really got confidence for gyms or clubs so thought I'd try c25k on my own still debating if I can keep going as felt nervous going out yesterday and didn't sleep well night before but still got up and went out at 6am so there wasn't too many people around. Don't think was the best as felt so self conscious and apart from ok trainers had normal leggings and jumper on so not best prepared that way but I did it and do ache today. Fingers crossed won't be as stressed Monday! Also never been on forms before either so another first 😊

Hello, I believe yoga and running go together really well as those yoga stretches are great after a run. On this forum I've read a few posts like yours where people are self conscious about running. As time goes by and you become more focused on your running you'll stop worrying about what others think and will just enjoy yourself wherever you are and whatever time it is.So well done to you for getting out there despite your nerves. I promise it will get easier. Keep posting and happy running.πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜€

Hello and welcome and well done you :)

Many have trod this path before you..self-conscious, discreet clothing, and trying to become invisible!

They are still here, all shapes, all sizes, all ages, and sporting all colours and all styles.. a smile on their faces and running for pure pleasure.

This . be warned, may happen to you:) But, you will love it...:)

Firstly.. the Yoga is great.. exercise on rest days is essential to build up your stamina and your strength.. walking, cycling, or swimming are useful; Try the link and peek at Strength and Flex to use on rest days too.. it is one that many us used, and still use:)

nhs.uk/Livewell/strength-an...

Good running shoes are essential.. they do not have to cost the earth, but for comfortable, safe running as the runs get longer they are you most important bit of kit. If you are female.. ( sorry) forgot to check...a sports bra... a good one! Other gear.. you will find all over the place...does not have to be expensive! Many of us love our funky colours...I was the original Grey Snail... now... purples, pinks. orange, stripes, yellow.. you name it:)

Follow the programme, take your rest days, listen to your body and above all keep it steady and slow!

Keep posting... the forum is not like other social forums..this one is supportive, encouraging, friendly and fun. We have all been where you are and have experienced many of the things that you will experience. if you have a question ask..someone will have advice. If we do not know, we will find out for you!

So.. all that is needed is for you to get out there Monday... the early runs are a joy... I love them :) Relax and enjoy, we will be right there with you :)

I shall watch for your post! :)

Well done for getting out there. And you did it. The self conscious thing fades as you keep doing it. And as you become sure you want to continue you can reward yourself with some running gear. But at the start you can run in pretty much anything.

Don't be stressed by it. The worst that can happen is you don't manage to complete that days run and have to try again. As long as you follow the programme, run slow, don't skip rest days, stretch then you will make it.

It is well worth it in so many ways.

Huge well done for starting - keep it up. Those feelings of self-consciousness will go, I promise, especially as you start to feel the benefits of running. This forum is a great place to come for support and advice and is probably one of the friendliest virtual places you could go! Good luck.πŸ™‚

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments and advice it really made my morning reading them. I will definitely keep going and keep posting how I'm getting on 😊

So many firsts in such a short time. You did really well going out and getting it done. All of us here have had similar if probably not all the same doubts you have had. It's a great crew, like having the London Olympics 2012 audiences behind your every move. So enjoy your next one and let us know how you got on

Well done you, you're being so brace.

I know exactly how you feel. When I started back in February I ran just as it was getting light so as to avoid everyone, I was convinced they would all be laughing at me. I wore black clothes so I didn't draw attention to myself and I didn't tell anyone for the first week (including hubby who was on an early shift). Gradually over the weeks I 'came out'. I had my first running shoes as a birthday present in May and am now looking the part in my lovely running clothes.

I'm boring you with this story because I know if I got through those difficult self conscious times you will. You'll be terrific!

Be brave, keep smiling and go for it!

Let us know how you're doing.

Good luck and happy running!
