W9R1 - that was a challenge

So bored with running on the treadmill so I thought I'd run outside this morning. Just recently my running seems to have become extremely challenging. Challenging in a different way to when I first started. When I first started my lungs were on fire, now my legs just don't want to work. Started off with a hill but I did it and felt good and then ran well for a couple of km. Then the path got really narrow and uneven. Then i got to another hill and I just couldn't. I couldn't convince myself, whatever I did. After about 5 minutes of walking I turned round and ran back the way I came - and I kept running and even taking out the bit of walking in the middle, I still ran for 30 minutes - and up another hill at the end. Why is my mind doing this to me?

Because it can 😀. Seriously, well done for completing your first outside run. Doing it outside😊 Is sooooo different from the treadmill, it's no wonder your mind played with you - probably wondered what the heck was going on and wanted to sort itself out.

Now you have discovered the great outdoors I bet you will come to love it like many of us do and the treadmill is relegated to occasional or convenience use. Bad runs, gremlins call it what you will happen to everyone, so pay no heed and onwards you go. That graduate sign is within your grasp👍.

Hills or no hills, gremlins or no gremlins, outdoor running is a TOTALLY different beast (and a harder one, for sure!) than treadmill running. (I'm only on W1 of this programme but I did get to a 25min run on a previous one, and spent lots of time both on treadmills and outdoors.) Give yerself a break--you've upped the ante right at the last hurdle! Keep taking it easy, be nice to yourself, and you'll be back on the kind of form you want to be in no time 🤘🏼

Starting with a hill is difficult...a change of plan... outside too... not maybe an ideal scenario.

Running outside is great, but so, so different. On the treadmill the pace, distance and incline is both available and adjustable. Not so , in the great outdoors! Inside, the run you take is basically in a controlled environment. Outside..., there are a lot of variables— weather, wind, elevation, and surface ... potholes, rabbit holes, mud, and undulations!! Pavement too very hard underfoot!

So... start slow:) The hills; a really brisk walk may have helped.before you started to run ( the toxic ten) It is just a combination of circumstances and those pesky gremlins!!! They will jump in any chance they get!

Onward and upward.. you ran :)
